Unlike other festivals held in the dead summer heat, Fun Fun Fun Fest is the premier fall festival - the perfect ending to an ever-growing summer festival season. In an effort to keep things, well, fun, festival planners are eyeing a circus tent of events, including a dunking booth with members of bands and other "celebrities." The Altercation Punk Rock Comedy troupe, Coldtowne Comedy Hour, Tim and Eric of Adult Swim's Tim and Eric Awesome Show and other comedy acts will also be on hand to entertain festival-goers looking for a break from the music.
Joining headliners Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The National and Minus the Bear on the main stage are Atmosphere, St. Vincent, Deerhoof, Bishop Allen, locals Trail of Dead, Jim Ward's (Sparta) countrified Sleepercar, and a host of other hot new acts.
FFF '08 showcases artists performing on four stages, expanding on last year's three-stage set-up. In addition to the indie, punk, and dance-themed stages, FFF '08 will feature a more intimate stage for solo artists like Oklahoma's El Paso Hot Button and the sure-to-be-popular "Revival Tour" featuring Ben Nichols (Lucero), Tom Gabel (Against Me!), Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), and Tim Barry (Avail) performing solo and together. Kevin Seconds of 7 Seconds and Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits join the list of punk rock legends showing their softer side as solo acts. Austinites Shearwater, folksy emcee Tim Fite, and Adam Franklin (Swervedriver) and Sam Fogarino's (Interpol) new side-project Magnetic Morning headline the new, fourth stage.
Punk and hardcore fans take note - Fun Fun Fun Fest is your festival, the festival where legends reunite. In addition to headliner Bad Brains, a reunited ALL, Dead Milkmen, Flipper (now featuring Krist Novoselic of Nirvana), Adolescents, Cro-mags (jam), and Integrity are set to remind concertgoers exactly why punk is punk.
To appease your hip-shaking alter egos, Clipse, Z-trip, party-starting Dan Deacon, Dr. Octagon aka Kool Keith, IHeartComix's Franki Chan and locals Grupo Fantasma and Brownout star on this year's larger third stage.
A two-day pass will be $59.99, available through FrontgateTickets.com. Children under 10 get in free and discounts will be made available to all students.
