Maps, aka James Chapman, was recently shortlisted for the prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize for his debut album, "We Can Create," released on Mute in June 2007. Maps recently toured the US highlights include sold-out headline appearances at NYC's Mercury Lounge and KEXP's "John In The Morning At Night" benefit show in Seattle, as well as in studio performances on KEXP's John In The Morning and KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Maps is currently on tour in the UK.
Maps' debut album was rightly acclaimed upon its release in the spring as a work of heart stopping extremes. A hugely ambitious, widescreen and epic record that recalls everything from the far away electronics of Basic Channel and Carl Craig, through the skewed songwriting of Postal Service, Flaming Lips and Grandaddy to the euphoric soundscapes of Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine.
