Showcasing the concept that good music isn't all about money, Bum Rush the Charts http://bumrushthecharts.blogspot.com/ organizers established an iTunes affiliate link, donating 5% commission on every purchase to a college scholarship fund. The Boston-based Student Loan Network matched the first $1,000 earned in commissions and Black Lab is donating 50% of all income from "Mine Again" to the fund as well. More than $5,000 is expected to be raised for the fund from the one-day campaign.
Black Lab was chosen by podcasters because they, like many podcasters themselves, produce and market their own music from the ground up, without the restrictions of a record label. "The DNA of today's audience is anything but passive," said former MTV VJ and PodShow.com co-founder Adam Curry. "Many are content creators themselves and are eager to contribute, creating a powerful network effect."
