Inspired by her love of rock and roll, Grace Slicks artwork presents a range of subjects including portraits of old friends and legendary musicians such as Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Sting, and more. The exhibit also features The Wonderland Suite, where Slick stays true to the original depiction of Alice in Wonderland in some cases and imposes her own interpretations in others.
Best known as the lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, Slick is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in bringing the 1960s psychedelic rock to mainstream appeal. Her uncompromising persona and powerful voice helped to open up new modes of expression for female performers, giving legitimacy to the role of the female lead singer in the male-dominated world of rock music.
