The band was formed by Piotr Luczyk (guitar) in 1979. They successfully performed in Poland as an instrumental band, winning the favour of many fans. Fascination with music of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath shaped the style of the band and after 2 years of searching for a Polish equivalent of David Coverdale, KAT finally found a vocalist. Not only music but also the spectacularity of their shows won the band their reputation, resulting in concerts as a headliner at all most important festivals in the country, such as Jarocin, Metalmania, Opole, and Rock Arena. KAT shared the stage with Metallica during their Master of Puppets tour, as also with stars like Motorhead, Overkill, Death, Hanoi Rocks, Running Wild and Helloween. In December 2003, KAT supported the British legend Iron Maidem during their show in Wrocław. The performance was recorded and released on DVD. Performances along top artists finally grounded the band's status in Poland as well as abroad.
