With several full-length albums released in Europe, BIGBANG performs at up to twenty-five European festivals per year, rocking 20,000 seat capacity venues at a time. Their raucous live show is such a hot ticket that the band's 2003 double CD release "Radio Radio TV Sleep" is best-selling live album in Norwegian history. In 2006, BIGBANG played the main stage at the Roskilde Festival with The Who, The Flaming Lips and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Once known only to Scandinavian music fans, BIGBANG's notoriety grew considerably when they scored the opening slot on the 2006 U.K. leg of The Raconteurs European tour. It was on this tour that the London daily, The Sun, took notice and called the band, "Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with balls."
In 2007, BIGBANG came to the attention of North American publications Rolling Stone and Flaunt, as well as the influential commercial radio station Indie 103 in Los Angeles. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons even took notice and joined them onstage at the Flaunt Magazine Oscar party for a rendition of their hit To The Mountains. Somehow, having only played a handful of dates in the U.S. BIGBANG were already drawing eclectic comparisons to J. Mascus, Big Star, Tom Petty, Cream, Lynryd Skynyrd, R.E.M. and more. Likely, this came from the divergent upbringing of chief songwriter and band leader ystein Greni. His father, Thor, was a soul musician in The Undertaker's Circus, who toured with the New Yardbirds (aka Led Zeppelin) in the late Sixties. This classic rock foundation was met head-on with the adolescent Greni's love of skateboarding, punk & alternative rock. The music of Hsker D and Dinosaur Jr. helped meld the diverse influences of BIGBANG'S front man, and the band's distinctive sound was forged.
