Luca CD / Tour

08/24/07
.
(PR) Luca will release their third CD, Fractions on September 25, 2007 from the Tucson-based label Funzalo Records. Front man Nick Lucas previous gigs include stints as John Does (X) touring guitarist, musician on releases by Neko Case, Calexico, Devotchka, Howe Gelb and many others, as well as the man behind the board at Wavelab Studios. However, with Fractions, Luca has taken a more indie rock approach than on previous efforts.

Why the change in musical direction? It all started with Lucas last CD, the 2006 release Sick of Love, which moved the bands sound into rock territory. To help him go in that direction, Nick enlisted guitarist Joey Unger and drummer Ryan Janac, both from Tucsons sonic-popsters Sunday Afternoon. And yes, Nicks longtime band mate, bassist Chris Giambelluca, is still onboard. Today, Luca is as much about the band as it is about the man. Lucas latest is a full-blown 4 piece indie rock juggernaut.

Fractions is more a driving, guitar-based assault than previous Luca efforts that pigeonholed the man and the band as yalternative when all they wanted was an alternative. Today, the songwriting is infused with psychedelia, Beatles-esque pop and classic rock and bears the mark of storied producer Sean Slade (Radiohead, Hole, The Pixies, Dresden Dolls), who offered a new perspective to the talented band and captured their musical evolution on tape (not Pro Tools) at Wavelab.

In October, Luca and his band mates will be hitting the road for a fall tour supporting this new musical direction. Confirmed dates include:

10/04 @ Plush, Tucson, AZ
10/12 @ The Raven, Prescott, AZ
10/13 @ Burts Tiki Lounge, Albuquerque, NM
10/15 @ Kilby Court, Salt Lake City, UT
10/17 @ Laurel Thirst Pub, Portland, OR
10/18 @ The Comet Tavern, Seattle, WA
10/19 @ Sam Bonds Garage, Eugene, OR
10/23 @ Knitting Factory, Los Angeles, CA
10/24 @ Yucca Tap Room, Phoenix, AZ
10/27 @ Plush, Tucson, AZ
