A unique element of this MoMA screening series features 6 videos created by international artists based on a 90-second segment from The Residents recent release, River of Crime. Over a hundred videos were submitted for inclusion and YouTube now features the best 11, including the 6 that are included in the MoMA exhibition. These can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=theresidentsmoma with more information and program information at http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/film_media/2006/residents.html.
River Of Crime began as five bi-weekly episodes (referred to as "Crimecasts") and were inspired by the "True Crime" radio broadcasts of yore, but infused with a thoroughly modern twist. These episodes were originally released by Cordless this summer as a limited-edition digital subscription, unlocked by the purchase of a unique package of blank CD-R discs or as individual downloads purchased through digital distributors. River Of Crime: Episodes 1-5 (Special Edition) with an extra CD of the complete instrumental soundtrack will be available through Cordless on November 7, 2006.
The Residents are also releasing a new album, Tweedles, on October 31, 2006 through Mute.
