(Trent McMartin) A group of Toronto music artists have signed on to perform at the Sloan tribute concert slated to take place in Toronto's Kensington Market neighbourhood February 16. The show, which will see performances from such acts as Dollarama and Laura Barrett, will rip through all the Sloan classics including their biggest hits "Coax Me," "Money City Maniacs" and "The Good in Everyone."

Sloan burst out of the Halifax indie scene in the early 90's, which at the time was hailed as Canada's equivalent to the Seattle grunge scene in the U.S. The group released two highly acclaimed records with Geffen, 1992's Smeared and 1994's Twice Removed, before being dropped due to poor U.S. sales (The albums performed well in Canada though). Sloan currently releases records on Canadian indie label Murderecords and have a U.S. record deal with Koch Records. The group recently opened up for rock legends the Rolling Stones for two shows in Boston earlier this year.

Other acts to appear at the tribute event include Penny Whistleton, The Bicycles, The Chris Murphies, featuring members of Township Expansion, Another Blue Door and The Adorables; Disgrimination, featuring members of Broken Treefort, No Dynamics, and Rosazia; Cry Cry Papsmear, featuring The Coconut Boys; DJs Daniel Vila and Maria Funk; and Mack Lawrenz.
