(Prosthetic) Prog-minded, jazz-inspired Chicago act Yakuza is gearing up for the March 21 release of Samsara, the band's Prosthetic Records debut, with a run of dates alongside Metal Blade's equally prog-minded 3. The dates are set to kick off in the Midwest and run through the south and southwest. Having previously played alongside varied acts including Opeth, Mastodon, Ken Vandermark, and Sonic Youth, the new confirmed dates are listed below with more to come.
"Happy to get out on the road again, it's been a while," comments singer/saxophonist, Bruce Lamont. "Can't wait to play the songs off of Samsara. We also have a few new tunes we've been working on that we might test out. It's very cool going out with 3...Been digging their tunes, and I am really looking forward to sharing the stage with them."
Samsara is the follow-up to 2002's highly-regarded Way of the Dead, recorded with producer/engineer Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Isis) at Volume Studios in the band's hometown Chicago. "Bayles is killer," Lamont says of the producer. "His mentality going in is that this is his name too, so he puts in every effort necessary. He's a total workhorse, the first guy in the studio, the last one to leave. He's not afraid to tell you what he's thinking, but it's always for the good of the recording. We will work together with him again."
Samsara features guest spots from musicians Jim Baker, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Sanford Parker, and Mastodon's Troy Sanders among the album's ten tracks. As previously reported, the album's cover art, handled by drummer James Staffel, is available on the band's MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/yakuza) along with the album's lead track, "Cancer of Industry."YAKUZA on tour
