By 1969 the Dead's marathon free-form performances were fundamentally expanding the known boundaries of rock music. Their '69 LP Live/Dead remains an all-time classic concert album, and Fillmore West 1969 revisits the amazing source material from which it was drawn. Grateful Dead Records' new three-disc goldmine presents a bounty of iconic Dead songs recorded at their now-historic dates from February 27 to March 2, 1969.
Previously unreleased highlights include a mind-bending 55-minute "Alligator"/"Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)" jam, the finally complete "We Bid You Goodnight" (from Live/Dead), and unearthed performances of "Dark Star," "St. Stephen," "The Eleven," and "Death Don't Have No Mercy." The deluxe packaging features a 72-page hardbound booklet filled with nearly 100 rare photos and extensive liner notes including a new essay by longtime Dead publicist and biographer Dennis McNally.
