Lohan was driving on a West Hollywood street Tuesday when her Mercedes-Benz convertible collided with a van. Lohan and her passenger sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital and released.
Early press reports stated that Lohan was fleeing paparazzi at the time of the crash leading to speculation that they were at fault. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Associated Press, "The paparazzi, as far as we can tell, have nothing to do in terms of the accident." Whitmore said that the crash was a result of the driver of the van making a U-turn in front of the 19-year-old actress.
The van driver who also suffered minor injuries in the crash may be cited for the accident, according to Whitmore.
