Production of "Spider-Man 3" is expected to get underway early next year and the film is scheduled for a May 2007 release. The next installment of the franchise will once again star Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and will be directed by Sam Raimi, who helmed the first two films. Kirsten Dunst will most likely carry on with her role as Mary Jane Watson in "Spider-Man 3".
"In addition to the ongoing relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," Raimi said when announcing the addition of Church to the cast as an unidentified villain. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic new nemesis and we are all looking forward to working with him."
