"Madagascar" became king of the box office jungle this week after bringing in estimated ticket sales of $28.7 million. Adam Sandler's remake of the 1974 football/prison hit "The Longest Yard" landed in second place with an estimated gross of $26.1 million, just beating out "Sith" which had an estimated $26 million haul this weekend.
Ron Howard's "Cinderella Man," may have been a contender with the star power of Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger, but the boxing movie failed to penetrate the top 3, held by holdovers from last week. When the score cards were tallied, "Cinderella Man" wasn't a knockout but landed at a healthy fourth place with $18.6 million.
Teen girl power was the order of the day for fifth place as "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" brought in an estimated $10.25 million beating the skaters of "Lords of Dogtown" by a wide margin. The dramatized version of the adventure of so cal skateboarding pioneers the Z-boys brought in $5.7 million to land in sixth place.
