While most rock bands have no reason in visiting these far and away countries other than for a vacation, KAURA, however, is an exception. Their unique and dynamic sound, which has been called a cross between A Perfect Circle and U2, is based on the subtle fusion of ancient world instruments and modern hard rock. " We have been wanting to take this kind of trip for years now" says Malcolm Guess. " Both Ben and I had been to Thailand before, and that's what really opened both of our eyes up to the wealth of musical culture out there, so we are really looking to going back to Thailand again and exploring these other countries."
The band will be traveling with a portable Pro Tools recording rig, as well as pint sized photo and video equipment to document the journey. Benjamin Jones elaborates, "A trip like this could not have happened even 4 years ago. With the advent of these powerful Apple laptops, micro-sized video cameras, and the growing presence of the internet in these countries, we are going to be able to demo song ideas as well as share this adventure with our fans." In order to do this, KAURA has teamed up with Google-based Blogger to set up a video, audio, and photo log which the band will try to keep updated bi-weekly based on available internet connections. KAURA promises that the new songs they are writing will be on another level from their first release. "The first E.P. only hinted at where we wanted to take this marriage of ancient instruments and current rock music instrumentation. The songs we are writing now are more dynamic and with our upcoming travels, I am sure they will take on another dimension that we can only imagine right now" says Guess. The new songs will feature these rare instruments much more than the E.P., but will be done in a way that everyday rock fans will still be able to relate to. When the band returns in November, they are anxious to find a label to release the album. "We are really weighing our options right now. The band deserves the utmost attention and respect; that is why we have done everything ourselves up to this point, but we are at the stage where we are looking forward to taking it to the next level and just need to find the right label and management to do that.
