Long is best known for her role as Diane Chambers in the hit 80s sitcom Cheers. She was rushed to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on November 16th and treated for an overdose of painkiller medication. She was discharged on Tuesday.
The 55-year-old actress is currently in the middle of divorce proceedings. Friends have reportedly said that Long has been depressed since her husband, Bruce Tyson, left her last year. According to these friends, Long was barely eating and spent most of her time in bed. This has lead many to speculate that the overdose was a suicide attempt.
The New York Post reports that Long's publicist, Regina Miyamoto, has said that Long "took an extra pain pill for an injury she sustained on her back several years ago when she slipped on the set of 'Cheers.' "
"She had a bad reaction to the extra pill and went to the hospital," Miyamoto said.
However, the Post reports that Miyamoto
would not comment when asked "if Long attempted to injure herself or was
depressed about her breakup."
