Brown told the judge he did not have the money to pay the support because he has not been active in the music business for some time.
He was released from DeKalb County Jail in Georgia on Monday, where he was serving a 60 day sentence for a probation violation. He was originally scheduled to be released on Thursday but was released early so that he could appear for the child support hearing in Mass on Wednesday.
Upon his release from jail on Monday, Brown told reporters that it would be the last time that he would enter or leave prison. But it turns out that decision is not his prerogative.
Browns legal woes do not end there. He is scheduled to appear in court in Fulton County, Georgia, on May 5 on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. Brown was charged after he allegedly assaulted his wife, singer Whitney Houston, in their Atlanta area home last December.
Updated 3/26/04: Brown was released at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, having spent a day behind bars at the Norfolk House of Correction.
Authorities released Brown after received confirmation his $63,000 child support debt had been settled.
I'm going to pick up my children,'' Brown
said as he left the jail house with his brother and flashed the press a
peace sign.
