On Friday (March 5), Stern told listeners that he believes that his reign as the king of morning radio was over. The show is over, Stern proclaimed.
"I'm guessing that sometime next week will be my last show on this station,'' said Stern. "There's a cultural war going on. The religious right is winning. We're losing.''
Stern spent the bulk of his program talking about his demise. He also said that he expects another hefty fine from the FCC to be handed down and that will be the nail in his coffin.
In the past, stations that carry Sterns
show have faced heavy fines after the shock jock violated FCC broadcast
decency rules.
"This time they have to fire me,'' Stern
said. "I'm through. I'm a dead man walking.''
Clear Channel was fined last month $755,000
by the FCC, for airing what the federal agency considers indecent material.
