NBC has inked a pilot deal with Greg Daniels (co-creator of Foxs King of the Hill) to develop a US version of the hit BBC sitcom.
The Dilbert like comedy centers on the comedic drama that takes place in the office of a paper-supply comedy. Much of the comedy comes from the offbeat characters including the boss from hell. Its a subject matter that many can relate to and has turned the UK sitcom into a smash hit. NBC is hoping to repeat that success in the US.
Workplace comedies are a staple of TV.
Unfortunately, most office comedies have all the reality leeched out of
them, NBC president of
primetime development Kevin Reilly said.
The US offering will be tweaked to appeal to American audiences if the show goes beyond the pilot stages. Daniels will adapt the successful UK sitcom to those goals when he writes the screenplay for the US pilot.
The U.S. version of Coupling more or
less re-shot the British scripts with the American cast.
