The film was directed by Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise) and is built around the premise of Black as a struggling musician who takes a substitute teaching job at a private school to help make ends meet. Once in the classroom he then forms a rock band with his students. 

The soundtrack to the film is an impressive collection of classic rock that also includes an AC/DC cover by the film�s student band.
