The Milks Gone Bad, Some Would Say It Went Rancid

Ahoy Droogies, its a sad sad time here in the Greenmuse Pirate Playhouse(patent pending), one of my longtime favorite bands has gone and done something I cannot look past. Ive been a fairly long time fan of Rancid, despite them not being the most original sounding band, some would say they liked the band better when they called themselves the clash and the members were names, Joe, Mick, Paul and Topper. But for whatever reason ive always liked them, perhaps its the soft spot for Operation Ivy I carry deep in my being. I never expected them to let me down the way they did when they cast Kelly Osbourne in their latest video.

When Rancid signed to major label I was barely concerned with a change, if anything I thought they would bring some sort of quality to the vapid wasteland of pretty boy clones that the labels and MTV want us to believe is what punk rock is. So when I read in a friends email that he saw Kelly Osbourne in Rancids video I thought he was joking, after all he is quite a joker, but then it dawned on me, he was serious so I set off to confirm this with my own eyes. So I would scan the music channels for this atrocity, and after developing an addiction to junior seniors m-m-move your feet(I absolutely love this song) I finally saw the video, and I couldnt believe what I saw, I still cannot believe it. Why kelly? Is she not the embodiment of all that is wrong with music? The pure incarnation of the word suck? Yes it sure was Kelly, and after picking my jaw up off the floor, I sobbed gently bitter at the world for this, this tragedy of sorts. I pictured 1000 Nelson Munzs pointing at me and laughing,ha ha, Rancid sucks, and I could only sigh in defense of them.

Now I know Rancid is no stranger to MTV, I can count about 3 videos of them off the top of my head. I know Rancid isnt exactly the definition of punk rock credibility, aside from NOFX and Millenlicon you ask any mall punk what their favorite band is, and its most likely to be one of these three. I can think of many people that would have been better to choose to appear in their video rather than Kelly, Barry Manilow, Martha Stewart, George Bush, Sr. and junior, Garth Brooks, you get the idea, anyone other than Kelly. Now I know its just a video, and its the music that matters, but to me I take it personally, Ive always been a stout defender of Rancid, they do a good job of introducing people to a base of much better music through the bands influences, much like Greenday, Rancid is a gateway band to harder and much better bands. Plus I do like the music, well I didnt like the self titled 2000 too much, it seemed sort of rushed compared to some of their earlier work. The single I heard with the video didnt send me too far. I sure hope this isnt a sign of things to come.
