Ahoy fellow kernels in the turd of life. Not much has been occurring in the field of my immediate view so I haven't had much to write about. The only thing that I've really been mulling over has been this conversation with someone I met recently who could be a lost sister of mine. We were speaking on the subject of the vast difference between those who grew up in the 80s and those who didnt. She used the phrase the last of the normals to describe our generation. This has stuck with me and has been ricocheting around my gulliver for awhile, occasionally bouncing off a thought of why there arent more cartoons featuring bands who solve crimes in their off time. . . . . Actually I'd put money on the Killers solving crimes when not gigging. They look like they could solve some the ass out of crimes that would befuddle even Nancy Drew. Sure they are some exceptions to this generational gap, but they seem to be fewer and farther between than the members of my generation and the kids who grew up in the 70s. Today's kids don't have that certain. . . damage that is so integral to being a 20 something lad or lass depending on what youre packing in the trousers. Our cartoon shows had morals sewn into them. Who can't remember the mantra now I know, and knowing is half the battle, even Voltron had some sort of underlying moral to it. What that moral is I don't know, but I'm sure it had one. Today's cartoons are just entertainment without the fun that is edutainment. Sure today's animation is hilarious as all get out. (I'm a loyal viewer of the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy), but without the moral majority in firm influence of the air waves, we don't get the A-Team esque bullet fest and nobody is killed scenario today. I think MacGyver went his whole career with the Phoenix Foundation without actually killing anyone. I think this sort of forced sugar coating gave us all a certain cynicism that will endure for the rest of our lives. Am I saying I wish the moral majority would rear its ugly head once more? Of course not, but it would be nice to have them to laugh at. We all carry the bitterness over the degradation of MTV. Never a bastion of musical discovery, but we remember a time when you could catch Guns n Roses, Run DMC, Whitney Houston and Suicidal Tendencies videos all within the same hour. Today's kids just roll over and treat MTVs sucking with apathy. It's been that way all their lives so why get upset at it? Maybe today's kids are better off without this intense hatred of being sold out to, after all they can bypass the middle man(MTV) now and find the indie band of their dreams right at their fingertips on the internet. But I think this grudge against MTV is important to have first hand knowledge of in order to appreciate the indie level bands and labels even more. I personally hold a grudge against MTV for not having Kennedy as a VJ anymore. . . . . If they even have VJ's anymore. I had/have such a thing for her. I can hear some of you already saying jeezus
christ, this guy needs his depends changed and piss off old man, go watch
Matlock(I can remember when Matlock had new episodes whopper snappers)
but much like my article on the toys and crap of the 80s, you wouldn't
know unless you were there. This month's song of the month is the Dropkick
Murphy's Blood and Whisky as it is what I'm listening to at the moment.

this one from a 14 punker girl who asked him if he wanted to...)
