The band your Mother warned you about! a special by the Freak. Throw your Limp Bizkit CD's out because Mindless Self Indulgence makes the Kings of nookie sound like rookies. Hailing from NYC they capture the New York attitude with 30 satirical songs on their Elektra debut, "Frankenstein Girls Seem Strangely Sexy. " Politically incorrect, vulgar and offense, MSI mixes funk, punk, metal and rap to create a hilarious batch of songs that will have church groups and parents screaming for new censorship laws. Serious artist? Forget about it. MSI proudly proclaim they suck! Strangely, they don't. Most people won't get it. They will go on listening to their preprogrammed top 40 dribble, making Sting and Celine Dion millionaires while MSI reminds those of us with a sense of humor not to take ourselves so damn seriously. In the liner notes to their Elektra Debut "Frankenstein Girls" MSI gives the listener a stern warning: "You must listen to this album with your tongue planted firmly in your cheek. If you don't have a sense of irony, or you are a piece of s*** bigot, or a fundamentalist anything, return this album immediately, don't come to our shows, don't wear our T-shirts. f*** off. If you're a parent who neglects, beats, or doesn't show your child love, know that we don't condone violence so don't waste our time in court while you try to explain to a jury how our music made your 'happy & normal' child into a deranged lunatic. Thank you." That is sage advice in an age where parents and schools will put a kid on psychotropic drugs at the first sign of rebellion. When vocalist Little Jimmy Urine urges the listener to "go kill yourself" he doesn't mean it literally. When he waxes pornographic toward the character, "Clarissa", played by Melissa John Hart on the Nickelodeon show - asking her, "If you're so smart, Explain this Clarissa die, die, die", he is just poking fun. When he proclaims that when he has houseguest, "Dicks are for my friends" he is not necessarily advocating casual sex (then again, he might be!). No subject is off limits to MSI. Possessing a firm grasp of locker room humor, with "tongues firmly planted in cheek" MSI also take on some serious issues in a not so serious way. It's satire at the street level. "Frankenstein Girls" includes songs about Suicide - ("Go Kill yourself" proclaims "Backmask), Bigotry (Faggot) and sexism (Bitches). If the funny lyrics don't grab you, what about the heavy speed-punk-hip-hop-electronica video-game-inspired music the words are set to? Caffeine addicts will love the fast paced songs that on the average clock in at less than 2 minutes each. "I'll have a double mocha chino low-fat latte with my 'Cocaine and Toupees' please". Politically Correct, religious, or just plain anal-retentive listeners need not bother. If the humorous music of Eminem and the Bloodhound Gang makes your skin crawl, Mindless Self Indulgence will give you an aneurysm. On the other hand, if you want some good "dirty" fun that rivals the Jerky Boys in hilarity, the 30 alphabetically tracked songs on "Frankenstein Girls Seem Strangely Sexy" will give your hours of sick and twisted listening enjoyment.
