The Waterboys today make the very special announcement of their brand new, sixteenth studio album Life, Death And Dennis Hopper - out April 4th on Sun Records.

The most audacious Waterboys album yet, Life, Death And Dennis Hopper is the epic story of the trailblazing American actor and rebel told through a song cycle depicting not only Hopper's story but the saga of the last 75 years of western pop culture. "The arc of his life was the story of our times," says band leader Mike Scott, "He was at the big bang of youth culture in Rebel Without A Cause with James Dean; and the beginnings of Pop Art with the young Andy Warhol. He was part of the counter-culture, hippie, civil rights and psychedelic scenes of the '60s. In the '70s and '80s he went on a wild 10-year rip, almost died, came back, got straight and became a five-movies-a-year character actor without losing the sparkle in his eye or the sense of danger or unpredictability that always gathered around him." The 55th anniversary of The Guess Who's "American Woman" album is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.

Redbeard shared this synopsis for the episode: Guess Who songwriters Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman were a prolific pair from the very outset with hits "Laughing, "Undone", "These Eyes", and "No Time", but none of them were bigger or more timely than "American Woman" in December 1969. If you have not listened to the Guess Who's January 1970 classic parent album American Woman in quite awhile, I predict you will be amazed at how strong the songs were, such as "No Sugar Tonight"; how environmentally aware lyricist/gifted singer Burton Cummings was on "New Mother Nature", "Hand Me Down World", and later "Share the Land"; and how rockin' Randy Bachman could complement Cummings' pop side on "American Woman" and before that, "No Time". So why did Bachman leave at the Guess Who's peak? (read more)

Up and coming Niagara, ON trio Permilla recently released their new single "It Ain't Right" and to celebrate we asked Nicole Cerminara to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

Sometimes songwriting gives you these wonderful (albeit, rare) moments where you sit down with your guitar and an idea instantly comes to life with little to no thought required. I had one of those moments for "It Ain't Right" when one day I sat on my bed and sang the first 2 lines of the chorus like I already knew the song. The irony of this great moment was that I really didn't want to go through with writing the rest of it, as it didn't seem like my sound at the time. I've gone through many phases as a writer as my taste and style progress over time, and at this particular moment "It Ain't Right" was feeling too simple and foreign to my ears. (continue)
