Kings Of Mercia releases its sophomore album 'Battle Scars' via Metal Blade Records. To celebrate, they are sharing the title track along with a new music video. Now and again, art offers up the perfect storm. When creative worlds collide with a furious cacophony of power, licks, and lyrics, magic happens. Such is the case with KINGS OF MERCIA, whose second album, 'Battle Scars,' is the continuation of a story as unlikely as it is glorious. The band is helmed by guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and singer Steve Overland (FM) who are joined by drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto) and bassist Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning).
About 'Battle Scars' Steve Overland shared the following: "That's about post-war distress syndrome. It's about a guy who comes back from fighting and can't really deal with real life. He realizes that he can never be what he was before he went away and did this. But he really, really wants to, but he's trying to get that across to everybody that loves him. But the problem isn't him-it's what he's been through. I came up with the title 'Battle Scars,' and I think that suggested the subject matter." (continue)
The 55th anniversary of the Led Zeppelin II album is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.
Redbeard shared this synopsis for the episode: Though barely ten months had passed between the inauspicious releases of their debut and followup in 1969, so much had transpired in that time with the band- and the world- that by the time Led Zeppelin II erupted in late October 1969, the largest music event in history had occurred at the Woodstock Festival barely six weeks after two Americans walked on the Moon. And then "Whole Lotta Love" blew up my car radio that Autumn and changed everything. (read more)
Vanilla Fudge "Where Is My Mind - The Atco Recordings 1967-1969" 9CD Box Set has been released and features the band's complete catalog from the era that have been newly remastered from the original master tapes.
Featuring Mark Stein (vocals, organ), Vincent Martell (guitar, vocals), Tim Bogert (bass, vocals) and Carmine Appice (drums, vocals), the band were originally known as The Pigeons and gained notoriety thanks to their radical, slowed down and heavy interpretations of current hits. They signed to Atco Records, a division of Atlantic in April 1967 and changed their name at the insistence of Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun to Vanilla Fudge. Their radical cover version of The Supremes' hit "You Keep Me Hanging On" was issued as a single in June 1967. Dominated by the hard-hitting approach of their rhythm section and the powerful Hammond organ playing of Mark Stein it became a US top 10 hit. (continue)

Ginny Luke has worked from artists ranging from Foo Fighters and Meat Loaf to Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj, and now she is gearing up to release her own album, "Devil At My Heels", on November 1st. To celebrate we asked her to tell us about the song "Yeah Yeah Yeah". Here is the story:
I wrote "Yeah Yeah Yeah" to be one of those songs you blast getting ready or driving down the highway, feeling f***ing fabulous and like no one can mess with you. There's a unique feminine power and badass feeling I was trying to capture in the song--a youthful energy that was a cross between how I felt listening to Kesha or Charlie XCX growing up and as adults now rocking out at a concert or dancing, partying with your friends that make you feel badass. As I'm sure many people did in their early twenties, I also wanted to capture the rebellious free feeling of taking shots with friends and not giving a care about the world, while still knowing your power in your seduction skills and sexiness prowess.
