Alex Van Halen has been doing press to promote his new memoir "Brothers" and during a new interview he explained why he decided not to accept Sammy Hagar's invitation to be part of the Best Of All Worlds Tour this past summer, and also revealed his favorite era of Van Halen.
Hagar launched The Best Of All Worlds Tour to pay tribute to legacy of Van Halen and recruited his former Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony, along with guitarist Joe Satriani and drummers Jason Bonham and Kenny Aronoff to be part of the trek. (continue)
Haste The Day, the metalcore band that made a scene splash in the '00s, are back! Their triumphant return comes in the form of the video for the brand new single "Burn." They also appeared at Furnace Fest earlier this month.
"Burn" marks the first new music from the band in nearly a decade. "We wrote 'Burn' to be a metalcore thrasher with harmonized guitar melodies, an epic chorus, a crushing breakdown riff, and lyrics about a broken system of justice focused on retaliation instead of restoration," says singer Stephen Keech. "Being the first song that we've released in nine years, we wanted to put our best foot forward musically but also address an important topic in today's divided world: The more we try to tear others down, the more we destroy ourselves." Last month, metalcore legends Underoath returned with a new single "Teeth," and hinted at plans for a full album release via MNRK Heavy in 2025. Today, they are sharing another taste of what's to come with the punishing new song "Survivor's Guilt" and its music video, which the band self-directed while on tour and brought to a final edit in under forty-eight hours just last week, working in tandem alongside Jacob Moniz, their social media content director.
Speaking on "Survivor's Guilt," its lyrical themes and origins, the band's Spencer Chamberlain says "I feel this heavy guilt about making it out alive when so many of my friends didn't. There have been many times during my recovery when I've felt guilty, and that's a mindf*** in itself, but it's a real feeling. (continue)
Dorothy, the raven-haired rock dynamo from Los Angeles, returned to prominence over the summer. She shared the first taste of new music from her forthcoming fourth album in the form of explosive and unforgettable new single "MUD." The track was produced by Scott Stevens (Halestorm, Shinedown, Nothing More). Today, the raven-haired rocker has shared an absolutely explosive performance video of the song, something her legion of fans has been eager to see and hear.
The performance captures Dorothy in her most natural habitat - onstage. It crackles and smolders with the intensity and heat that only Dorothy can bring. Cloaked in black leather, Dorothy schools the crowd on the undeniable chemistry that is alive and well amongst metal and rock loyalists and country badasses. She remains a musical outlaw through and through. Dorothy isn't afraid to get, well, dirty. The song boasts a hearty mix of the blues-infused rock her previous albums have been known for, but adds a countrified twist, as can be offered up by only an artist of Dorothy's caliber. (continue)
This past February, Remo Drive gave us their fourth album 'Mercy' and introduced a major sonic shift from their previous emo tendencies. Praised for meeting on the intersection of indie, pop and folk-rock, The Current endearingly compared the music to an eclectic mix of "Belle & Sebastian meets Of Mice and Men." Today Remo Drive share an expanded version of the album, 'Mercy Deluxe', and unveil four reimagined versions of its tracks performed by friends Wilt, Field Medic, Boyish and Caleb Lee Hutchinson.
Highlighting the emotional depth and introspection that define their songwriting, Remo Drive also share the music video for "White Dress (Caleb Lee Hutchinson Version)." Lending his velvety baritone and a nostalgic pedal steel guitar, the Nashville singer-songwriter crafts a heartfelt country ballad. Directed by Sam Aldrich and featuring cameos of both Erik Paulson (vocalist/guitarist) and Stephen Paulson (drummer). (continue)
Canada's biggest alt-rock export, Mother Mother, unveil their unique cover of the holiday classic "Silent Night" out now via Warner Records. The band add their inimitable touch to this Christmas classic, taking it for an arrestingly dark and tongue-in-cheek turn. Distant sirens bleed into an ominous lullaby-style melody as strings accent soft keys. From there, the musicians flip the original upside down. Swells of distortion incinerate any calm, and they infuse the instantly recognizable chorus with enough vitriol to make Santa blush, "Silent night, dyin' inside. All is lost, all's not right. Round the table, my family is vile. Holy infant was born in denial."
The release just continues a prolific and unforgettable 2024 for Mother Mother. Following successive North American tours, they recently descended upon Latin America and Mexico for a string of nearly sold-out headline dates, and they will cap off a banner year with gigs across Australia and New Zealand. Their shows continue to incite critical applause; Missoula Current noted, "their powerful music has the ability to reach people at a profound level," and The Vanderbilt Hustler raved, "They truly knew how to take control of the audience and cater a performance to their fans." During this summer's co-headline run with Cavetown, Boston.com hailed Mother Mother's "explosive set" and applauded "the rock band's energetic performance complementing Cavetown's softer approach." Finnish death-doom metal masters Swallow The Sun have unleashed their highly anticipated new album 'Shining'. Alongside the album release, the band presents their haunting new single "Charcoal Sky" which is accompanied by a visualizer that perfectly captures the song's melancholic essence.
Guitar/Keyboardist Juha Raivio comments on the album release: "It feels almost surreal to release one of our best and bravest album 24 years into the band's existence. Like an ice dagger through a sleeping heart. Sunrise in the night sky. Horns and Halos. Shining dark." (continue)

This week, David Gilmour concluded a six-night sold-out run at London's Royal Albert Hall, following on from six sold-out nights at Circus Maximus in Rome in support of his UK #1 album, 'Luck and Strange.'
One of the highlights of the live show has been 'Between Two Points,' a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers' 1999 song featuring Romany Gilmour on lead vocals and harp. The track has been remixed by Gus Unger-Hamilton of alt-J, giving it a hypnotic electro twist around the song's 'They're right, you're wrong' refrain. (continue)
Asking Alexandria today (October 18) have released a digital EP featuring remixed versions of popular tracks from their acclaimed 2023 album WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? via Better Noise Music. The visual is so captivating it encourages fans to re-watch and catch what they might have missed the first time around.
On the new chapter of Anberlin, drummer Nate Young shares "Bringing Matty into the band has been beneficial on countless levels. He's brought a fresh perspective to the picture that allowed us re-discover our roots & made us fall in love with music all over again. 'Walk Alone' & 'Seven' were the beginning of a new era, 'High Stakes' is proof that Anberlin is here to stay." (continue)

The veteran Baltimore progressive rock/metal trio Krapf are releasing remastered versions of some of their most popular tracks and to celebrate we asked Isaac Krapt to tell us about the recently released "Autumn". Here is the story:
"Autumn" was the very first song I wrote & released in early 2020. It was remastered this year and re-released on all streaming sites in August of 2024. Before "Krapf" formed as a collaborative band effort, I spearheaded this as a solo project and as such I tracked all of the guitars, bass, vocals and drums. It is fitting that as the band is currently in the studio recording our next record, this re-release bridges the past to the future of the project. (continue)
