"'Just Like You' was the last song I recorded for Artificial Melodies", explains Wendy Stonehenge of Oakland, CA-based glam synth band The Candy Whips about their new 80s Synthesized track from their upcoming angular synthpop album Artificial Melodies (release date: November 5th, 2024 via Kitten Robot Records).
Stonehenge describes how the track became the final piece to complete the album, "The album [Side A, which includes the full Candy Whips band] was pretty much done but I felt like the solo side [Side B, which features only Stonehenge] needed another upbeat number to round it out...of course, I couldn't write a catchy pop song without adding nihilistic lyrics." Stonehenge adds, "The B side of this album is going to go over great with fans of the first album, but I'm hoping to expand our audience with the full band material." (continue)
Alt-rock artist and producer Letdown. has revealed the track listing for his anticipated debut album Be Ok, dropping November 15, 2024, via Big Loud Rock. Metal Allegiance is entering their second decade together, and unlike most other metal supergroups or collaborations, Metal Allegiance continues stronger - and heavier - than ever. Beginning as a celebration of heavy metal, Metal Allegiance is powered by the almost tribal bond shared between the extreme music community's most revered trailblazers, armed with a list of contributors onstage (and off) that read like a Wikipedia entry on the genre itself -whose "core 4" is comprised of David Ellefson, Mark Menghi, Alex Skolnick, and Mike Portnoy.
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the band - which in addition to the core 4, will also include Chuck Billy (Testament), Bobby Blitz (Overkill), John Bush (Armored Saint), Doc Coyle (Bad Wolves & God Forbid), Brandon Ellis (The Black Dahlia Murder), Marty Friedman, Gary Holt (Slayer / Exodus), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Jeff Loomis, Mark Tornillo (Accept), Angel Vivaldi and more - will perform at what has become an annual event for the band at the House of Blues (400 Disney Way) in Anaheim, CA. Canadian rockers Lions in the Street release their new single "Lady Blue" from today. "Lady Blue" is the third single taken from the band's highly anticipated album Moving Along released Friday 8 November 2024.
"Lady Blue would fit comfortably on a Lynyrd Skynyrd or Eagles album," says Lions in the Street's vocalist and guitarist, Chris Kinnon. "It's a classic northern take on a southern rock, a la Neil Young or the Band. It's a song about regret, with organ swirls, languid vintage guitar tones, and a James Burton-inspired guitar solo setting the tone." (continue)
Ora Cogan released the "High Noon" video today as she starts her tour tonight in Nashville. From the critically acclaimed album Formless, "High Noon" observes the smoke and mirrors of the posturing, masks, and ego rising from the right political wing and the search for love and community. Feeling broken-hearted and disillusioned, nihilistic and scared about the funnels into ways of thinking and disinformation.... "the world is lost, isn't it love."
Directed by Alistair Nicholls, the film is a mixture of old-fashioned stop-motion animation techniques. As Nicholls embraces the handmade, lo-fi look, we follow a hare running through the woods as if being chased. Nighttime falls and it burrows into the soil, following a series of underground tunnels. The video resolves as a triumphant tale of community and finding a chosen family. (continue)
Hillhaven have unleashed their sixth single "Temple & Tomb." It follows the buzzy prior singles "Damned to Dream," "The God You Think You Are," "GAPS," "SYCOPHANTS," and "LIAR."
"'Temple & Tomb' is the chronicling of my own intrusive thoughts," says singer Chris Kelly. "Anxiety, depression, dysmorphia, the struggle for self-worth, pretty much all the bad sh*t makes an appearance here. It's angry and painful, but as a result, incredibly cathartic. The song was written and recorded in isolation, which really comes through on a visceral level, as I think most of us would attest that our worst thoughts often get louder when we're alone. Corny as it is to say, I very much hope people are able to connect to this song and find their own catharsis. If nothing else, it's confirmation that you're not alone." (continue)

Toronto-based alt-rocker Harley Olivia recently released her debut EP "Hiding Little Pieces" and to celebrate we asked her to tell us about one of the tracks and she selected "You're Not Ready". Here is the story:
I wrote "You're Not Ready" after ending a toxic situationship with someone who turned out to be the epitome of a wolf in sheep's clothing. He initially came across as kind and loving, but over time, the mask slipped, and he even admitted to deceiving me. As his true self emerged, I realized what I had mistaken for charm was really just a lack of empathy-which is why I wrote the line, "I won't pretend that your coldness is charming, you just lack empathy."
