Life Of Agony pay homage to The Crow's Brandon Lee with their brand new song and music video, "The Crow (In Memory Of B.L.)". Here is the official announcement for the song and visual: Life of Agony has a long history of paying homage to the films that helped shape their teenage years.
Back in 1995, the band covered Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)" on the group's Ugly album; the song was made famous by the movie The Breakfast Club. In 1997, on their album Soul Searching Sun, a music video for the song "Desire" incorporated visuals reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. That tradition continues with a brand-new original track titled "The Crow (In Memory of B.L.)," which pays tribute to the fallen star Brandon Lee, who tragically lost his life during the filming of the cult-classic, released 30 years ago. Thunderclap Newman stunned the music world in the summer of 1969 with the success of their wonderfully odd debut single "Something In The Air", which ousted none other than the Beatles from the top of the charts. They followed up with an LP described by Nik Cohn as "one of the finest, most truly bizarre albums of the era" before disintegrating just a few months after its release.
This is the story of one of the most unlikely combos in popular music history and of the four disparate characters who formed its core: Pete Townshend, principal songwriter and guitarist for The Who; his best friend and driver, the singer/songwriter/drummer John 'Speedy' Keen; a 15-year-old wunderkind guitarist named Jimmy McCulloch; and finally, an enigmatic telephone engineer who also happened to be a brilliant improvisational jazz pianist: Andy "Thunderclap" Newman. Holy Roller Baby just release the new album "Smile Like Heaven" and to celebrate we asked mastermind Jared Mullins to tell us about the song "Ant Hills". Here is the story:
'Ant Hills' started with the chorus line. I really didn't have any intended plans of writing a song that sounded like a satirical infomercial, but that's how it ended up. I am fascinated by late-night infomercials. I love the cheese factor. I love the graphics and the cult of personality involved. So eventually I incorporated the late-night infomercial concept in a satirical way and applied it to various aspects of life: the commercialization of thought, philosophy, worldview, product placements, etc. Everything is for sale, right? With the lines "you can buy now" repeated over and over, the song eventually turned into a friendly, tongue-in-cheek challenge to our licensing company to get our music placed somehow. How in the world can we NOT get a song synced that literally says "buy now" about 100 times? It applies to everything, really. (continue)
