The visual concept was a first for the band who generally toured with a more general, stripped back production. Sheridan, who's previously worked with Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails as well as notable director David Fincher, told the Seattle Times "Pearl Jam isn't a bright, cold LED screen; it's a warm, incandescent light. We talked about, 'What if we did this with a really analog feel?' What if we used a projection screen, and some ways to help bring the visuals into the space with the band but not be fighting for attention with what is one of the greatest live bands, in terms of musical performances, of our generation." The 55th anniversary of the "Woodstock" album is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.

Redbeard shared this synopsis for the episode: The fifteen months preceding the Woodstock Festival over the weekend of August 15-17, 1969 were some of the worst, and some of the best, days of the 20th century. Broiling protests over the Viet Nam War, which had been percolating for over five years by then, had driven Lyndon Johnson from the US presidency, replaced by Richard Nixon, who promptly escalated the war seven months before the Woodstock Festival in August 1969. Civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Martin Luther King jr., as well as Senator and probable presidential candidate Robert Kennedy, had both been assassinated barely a year before. Race riots had erupted in several of America's big cities, leaving death and enormous destruction from the violence. (read more)

Carry On Band just released their new single "Three and A Half Minutes" from their album, "No Time For Warning", and to celebrate we asked Mark Prudeaux to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

Back in the early days of recording we would get together every weekday to work on material. We had just recorded a song that was over 11 minutes long. Though we really liked it we knew it had to be edited down. We managed to reduce the song to 6 minutes 7 seconds. But we could tell that because we enjoyed writing together so much, and because there were so many ideas coming from everyone, that it was likely to occur again. I started preaching that we couldn't let this continue. If there was gonna be any chance for these songs to succeed they were going to have to conform somewhat to a typical song length. After all, we were recording our first album. That alone would make it hard to get recognized. Imagine trying to pitch a 6 minute song to some suits that weren't likely to listen to more than the first 20 seconds. It didn't seem to be a viable approach. (continue)
