Sammy Hagar says that original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth went AWOL after he was invited to take part in the current Best Of All Worlds Tour that celebrates the music of Van Halen.
Hagar originally invited Roth to take part in the trek and Roth expressed interest in doing do, but Sammy soon clarified that Roth would only be a guest on one or more songs and not the entire tour. (continue)

The King Dunn Tour, a 45-date U.S. outing that sees the Melvins' King Buzzo and Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn joining forces, launches tonight (Aug 1) at Pappy & Harriet's in California's High Desert before winding its way across the U.S.

Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess has shared a music video for his song "Shadow Of The Moon," which was created by filmmaker Manny Walker after he won a Lightricks hosted contest to create the visual for the song from Rudess' forthcoming solo album, "Permission To Fly".
According to the announcement, Lightricks launched the contest by inviting "creators to submit unique music video concepts for Jordan's song. The winning filmmaker, Manny Walker, was whisked away to a state-of-the-art set in Serbia, where he was given the opportunity to co-direct the video alongside the Lightricks team, bringing his vision to life." Alice In Chains star Jerry Cantrell, who recently announced the Oct. 18 release of his new album, I Want Blood, has released a video for the nine-song collection's debut single, "Vilified".

Gliese, like many of my songs, was completed several times before I was actually happy enough with it to finalize the mix. I know that a lot of artists resist this kind of process... and admittedly, I do as well. Oftentimes, if a song idea doesn't immediately captivate me and take on a life of its own, I move on. But with Gliese... I just always knew that the core of the song had the potential to move me, and I think that's probably the more accurate barometer for which ideas are worth pursuing and which aren't. So it's a unique song because I've lived with it for years, I've performed it in its many versions and have had the chance to reflect upon what it says and how it says it. (continue)
