"The album is a diary of the last seven years of the journey that Andy, the band and I went on recording this music as Blitz Vega," says Kav Sandhu about Northern Gentlemen, the debut album by Blitz Vega, a band that he and the late Andy Rourke (The Smiths) started in 2016 and officially launched in 2019. Set for release on April 26, 2024 via FutureSonic Records/CEN/The Orchard, the album is a bittersweet celebration of Andy's impact on the music world and especially this band. Andy Rourke succumbed to pancreatic cancer on May 19, 2023.
"Every song tells a story and personally takes me back to a memory recording that song, the drive to the studio. That conversation or whatever happened surrounding the recording session," Kav continues, evoking not only the emotions of sadness for Andy's death but also the happy memories that came with their personal friendship and musical collaboration. "I hear his voice in my head, replaying everything we talked about when we were recording the song. I see his face smiling at me. On my last trip back to LA a few weeks ago, I was driving to the studio and it felt like Andy was sitting there with me like he had been so many times before, talking about music, just excited to get this album made. So, all the songs mean the world to me." (continue)

Independent Project Records and David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) announced today the release of the triple album Tracks From the Attic on digital, CD, colored vinyl LP and Super Deluxe Box Set Art Edition formats on May 3. The first single and video, "Oh No! Not Another Songwriter!", are out today.
Hand-picked by David himself, the three-LP Tracks From the Attic was originally part of Record Store Day's RSD Black Friday 2023 and features solo demos recorded on audio-cassette between 1984 and 2004. With Tracks From the Attic, the Bauhaus and Love and Rockets co-founder invites listeners on a most fascinating journey. We're looking through boxes of tapes, getting reacquainted with an artist we've known for a long time - yet, the intimate songs he recorded in solitude over three decades reveal new sides to him. Even while busy with his two legendary groups, David J was bursting with songs; this is a thrilling selection of recordings he made sometimes on the road and mostly at home, with only the help of his Muse, a recorder and a lit candle. The fact that most of these tunes did not end up becoming beloved classics (something that, once you hit play, your ears will hardly come to terms with) is but a sign of David J's ever prolific creative state. Tracks From the Attic offers a unique experience that gives equal importance to the aural, the visual and the tactile. (continue)

Lawrence Rothman has released a music video for the new single "LAX" that features Amanda Shires and comes from Rothman's forthcoming album, "The Plow that Broke The Plains", which will arrive on April 26th.
Rothman said of the inspiration for the new track, "Constant bombardment by media images and social pressure can cause you to feel uncomfortable about your body and the way you look. Product after product to stay thin, social media encouraging people to not only get thin, but be dangerously thin. The 'starving the body perfection' that went around social media really took me under and it hurts me to admit, but I got caught up in the web of wanting to look like images that were mostly likely photoshopped. One of the root issues of eating disorders is perfection and people-pleasing, I found myself going to Walgreens and buying up LAXatives, hence the 'LAX' title and weight loss pills. So many that my stomach started bleeding. On social media, you have to look like this, your body has to be shaped this way or you're ugly. And product after product is thrown at you to stay thin. Vancouver's Slightest Clue just released their new "Carousel EP" and to celebrate we asked Malcolm McLaren to tell us about one of the songs and he selected the title track. Here is the story:
Carousel first began in my old apartment on my acoustic guitar. Most of the parts came together quite fast with the help of my roommate who has helped me write tracks for Slightest Clue in the past. I had just the 2 chords that we use for the instrumental distorted jam for a long time and really liked how they swapped back and forth in this kinda Beatles-esque major minor interchange. (continue)
