M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold appeared on Audacy Check In with Jason Balley and he revealed why the band originally turned down the opportunity to open for Metallica.

The show sent over these highlights. His conversations with Lars Ulrich about joining them on tour, why they originally turned down the opportunity to open for Metallica: "We have only headlined for so long. One of the things we heard early in our career, and one thing we respected immensely about certain bands is, if you headline, people think of you as a headliner -- and if you go and open for people constantly, they'll always think of you as second fiddle. The idea of opening and taking all the toys away, everything everyone had ever seen -- my question to [Metallica's Lars Ulrich] was, 'I don't think this is the right look for new people getting into Avenged Sevenfold. This isn't where we're at.' But to a lot of mainstream people, it was 'Oh, you're the band that opened for Metallica,' which put us on a higher pedestal, which was weird to me... I still walked away from that tour extremely grateful but extremely I think right about taking that tour. It did put us in that weird position of, 'You're second fiddle to this.'" (continue)

With his new release, Brandon wanted to go back to his rock 'n' roll roots and record one of his childhood favorites. "I always wanted to be a rockstar growing up," Brandon shares. Taking inspiration from Justin Moore's 2019 cover of "Home Sweet Home" (Motley Crue), Brandon put his own country spin on the heavy metal classic "I Remember You."

"My hope is that this version of song kind of bridges a gap," Brandon explains. " I hope it reaches a younger generation of people who might not know the song, or much about that era of music, while also appealing to the older, rock-oriented crowd. The inimitable four-piece OXBOW announce their first new music in six years with the anticipated release of Love's Holiday (July 21, Ipecac Recordings). The album is preceded today by the lead single "1000 Hours" - a song featuring Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Jellyfish/Beck) and a video directed by John David Levy.

About the track, vocalist and lyricist Eugene Robinson comments: "'1000 Hours' for the OXBOW completist, 100 percent ties into our other song "1000,' thematically in my mind. But filming the video, given that I just had surgery a few days before, felt very much like Mann's 'Death in Venice' to me. You know where waiting to die never felt more beautiful, which really feels like the essence of love. Or at least one of them." (continue)

We had a song called Cold or Gold back in 1992. It was a leftover song from First and Magical sessions. Nobody can't remember what was the real title. Anyways, Olli wrote a new song, where he put a riff from that song. It fit like a bass into drum. We had it going. All we needed a story to fit in. (continue)
