The New Pornographers are debuting their new track "Pontius Pilate's Home Movies" in anticipation of their forthcoming album Continue as a Guest, their first for Merge Records, due March 31.
"Lyrically, it is very much a stream-of-consciousness story about the disease of social media and online culture," frontperson A.C. Newman explains about the track. "The narrator that only likes art when it changes the subject, buried in daydream, thinking it's an entrance, and the idea of Pontius Pilate entertaining his friends with home movies of the crucifixion (what else would he be showing? That part's clear, right?). It was a product of being stuck at home at a time when online was the only way for many to communicate, and obviously it had its negatives. One of those songs that might seem like word salad but is not, its disjointed nature very deliberate." (continue)

Devildriver have released a music video for their new single, "Through The Depths", to celebrate the announcement that they will be releasing the second part of their two-part 'Dealing With Demons' saga, 'Dealing With Demons II' on May 12th.
Freeman Promotions sent over these details: Once again produced and engineered by Steve Evetts with additional engineering from guitarist Mike Spreitzer, 'Dealing With Demons Vol. II' is inarguably heavier and relentlessly harsher than its predecessor. The new album represents not only the most vicious of the two records, but also the darkest recesses of celebrated frontman Dez Fafara's psyche and the final purging of his demons that have long haunted the band's music. The syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands remember Gary Rossington with a classic interview about their classic "Street Survivors" album.
Redbeard had this to say, "The tale of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Street Survivors would seem to have been hatched in the vivid imagination of Tennessee Williams, Harper Lee, or William Faulkner, but the real-life characters are so colorful, the childhood bonds so strong, the struggles so personal, the victories so inspiring, and the heartbreak so deep that there is simply no need for hyperbole in telling it. The modifiers 'legendary' and 'iconic' are thrown around probably too loosely in rock journalism, but in the case of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Street Survivors, these adjectives are completely warranted, simply because the album was so good, and what happened to the band, just days after its release, was so bad. Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist/songwriter Gary Rossington, who died March 5, sets the table for the songs 'What's Your Name','That Smell','I Know a Little','You Got That Right', and reveals what really happened on that fateful night flight 'One More Time'. John Fogerty has joined Spotify's "Billions Club" with Creedence Clearwater Revival's enduring recording of his song, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," commemorating an outstanding achievement of over 1 billion streams on the platform. The exclusive club, which boasts such members as Queen ("Another One Bites the Dust"), and Nirvana ("Smells Like Teen Spirit") currently includes under 400 songs. Additionally, when it comes to overall monthly listeners of bands founded in the '60s, CCR currently ranks in Spotify's Top 3, landing just behind The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac, and ahead of acts like The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. Nearly 55 years after their debut, it is a remarkable testament to their timeless appeal.
Written by John Fogerty and released in January 1971, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" was released with "Hey Tonight" as a double-sided hit from the band's sixth studio album, Pendulum. The record found the California band at the height of their global popularity, following a string of hit singles, an appearance at Woodstock, and their first European tour. That hard work was evidenced in the single's performance - as it hit No.1 in Canada, Malaysia, and South Africa, and landed in the Top 10 in more than a dozen countries around the world, including Australia, Singapore, Brazil, and the US, where it would eventually be certified 3X Platinum by the RIAA. In the years since its release, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" has remained a classic rock staple. (continue)
French Nu-metallers Elyose recently released their new album, "Deviante". To celebrate we asked Justin Daae to tell us about the track, "Vendredi Noir." Here is the story:
Our last single Vendredi noir is out and I'm glad to talk about it today!
This is a very special song, and we tried a lot of new things on it: there's many blend of both music genres and vocals styles and I'd never expected it turned that good when I wrote it!
First, it has a 3/4 rhythm feel that swings and make the song groove. Verses are full electronics with keyboards and beats, so when the band hit the chorus it hits very hard. (continue)
