Paul Simon Announces His 'Farewell Performance'

(Radio.com) It's been 61 years since Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel recorded their first song together as Tom & Jerry, embarking on one of music's most successful partnerships.

Simon went on to great solo stardom and has spent the decades actively touring, recording and maintaining his legacy as an influential figure in folk, rock and pop. But now, Simon could be walking away from it all this summer with a "farewell" show in scheduled for London's Hyde Park.

Billed as "Homeward Bound: The Farewell Performance," the concert is set to take place July 15 with openers Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor. No word yet on if this is indeed Simon's last show but Simon has mulled over retirement before, calling it "an act of courage." Read more here.

Smashing Pumpkins In The Studio With Rick Rubin

(Radio.com) Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has revealed that the legendary Rick Rubin will produce the upcoming Smashing Pumpkins album. Corgan worked with Rubin on his 2017 solo album Ogilala, but the yet-untitled album will mark his first recording with the Pumpkins since the 1997 song 'Let Me Give The World To You."

Corgan delivered the news in a retro-looking post that depicted a photo of him from the early '90s before his head resembled an eggshell along with a sprawling caption.

"I share a window (curated as it is) into my crazy life," Corgan wrote after a long preamble. "As an example, we are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin. But unless I show you a picture of Rick sitting Buddha-like at a mixing desk, you probably wouldn't know that."

Last week, Corgan posted a photo of himself sitting next to Pumpkins guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. In addition, both Corgan and Chamberlin have posted a photo of the same drumkit, implying that are both taking part in the Smashing Pumpkins reunion album. Iha hasn't yet commented on social media and is currently playing in A Perfect Circle. Read more here.

Judas Priest Legend KK Downing Announces memoir

(hennemusic) Former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing will publish his memoir, "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest", via Da Capo Press on September 18.

Co-written with Mark Eglinton, the project explores Downing's history with the British metal icons, who he joined in 1969 and was featured on all Judas Priest releases from their 1974 debut, "Rocka Rolla", to 2009's "A Touch of Evil: Live" before his retirement from the lineup in 2011.

"As the band approaches its golden anniversary, fans will at last be able to delve backstage into the decades of shocking, hilarious, and haunting stories that surround the heavy metal institution," reads the memoir's synopsis. "In Heavy Duty, guitarist K.K. Downing discusses the complex personality conflicts, the business screw-ups, the acrimonious relationship with fellow heavy metal band Iron Maiden, as well as how Judas Priest found itself at the epicenter of a storm of parental outrage that targeted heavy metal in the '80s.

The guitarist "also describes his role in cementing the band's trademark black leather and studs image that would not only become synonymous with the entire genre, but would also give singer Rob Halford a viable outlet by which to express his sexuality. Lastly, he recounts the life-changing moment when he looked at his bandmates on stage during a 2010 concert and thought, 'This is the last show.' Whatever the topic, whoever's involved, K.K. doesn't hold back." Read more

Anthrax Stream Live Video For Classic Song

(hennemusic) Anthrax perform their 1987 classic, "Caught In A Mosh", in the first video preview of their forthcoming live DVD, "Kings Among Scotland." Due April 27 and directed by Paul M. Green, "Kings Among Scotland" delivers the group's February 2017 show at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom.

The fan favorite from "Among The Living" is among those featured on the early 2017 tour that saw Anthrax deliver their third album in its entirety alongside a set a classic tracks selected by fans.

"It was a challenge for all of us to play 'Among The Living' live," admits drummer Charlie Benante. "We've played a number of that album's songs in our shows over the years, but not all of them, and playing a song in a recording studio is not the same as playing it live on stage. So we put in a lot of time to get all of the tracks down perfectly. And I'll tell you, after we finished that set, as arduous as it was, we all felt a sense of exhilaration, like we could go out and do it again."

Fans will note that the set's artwork, created by Steve Thompson (Slayer, Motorhead, Iron Maiden), was inspired by KISS' 1976 album, "Rock And Roll Over." Watch the video here.
