Metallica Star Was Joking About Making Lady Gaga 'Co-Singer'

Following Metallica's performance with Lady Gaga at the Grammy Awards reports surfaced that she is being offered the job as a "new co-lead singer" in the group but it appear those claims are being made based on a joke made by drummer Lars Ulrich.

Lars spoke with Access Hollywood at a pre-Grammy gala and joked, "And now we've got a new lead singer - well, a new co-lead singer, is a better way of saying it - so we were talking earlier about maybe making her a permanent member of Metallica and being a five-piece from now on, so we'll see."

Following those comments, a story published on the website of WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington D.C., claimed that Ulrich had invited Lady Gaga to join them on stage "whenever her schedule allows".

The story included no foundation for that claim and cited no source for it, but instead simply quoted the Access Hollywood comments by Lars and left out that he was joking.

Last week additional reports surfaced online that appeared to be based on the WJLA report, which claimed that the pop star was actually offered a job with the thrash legends. Watch the interview clip and judge for yourself here.

Another Report Claims Axl Rose And AC/DC Making New Album

Another report has surfaced that claims AC/DC co-founder and lead guitarist Angus Young is planning to make a new studio album with Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose.

The website Vintage Vinyl News reported late last week that the successful Rock Or Bust World Tour dates with Rose have "inspired Young to start planning another AC/DC record."

The report goes on to say that the new effort is not likely this year because "Guns N' Roses touring commitments throughout 2017 will make it difficult to finalize the project."

The site, which is affiliated with the Australian outlet Noise 11 that originally made the claims last week, cited no sources for the Rose and AC/DC album plans news, but speculated that a live release from the tour with Axl may be released before the supposed new studio album, since the band are said to have filmed "all of the" shows on the tour. Paul McCartney Streaming Rare Demo

Paul McCartney has released the original demo for the track "My Brave Face", which is one of the bonus tracks that will be featured on the deluxe reissue of his "Flowers In The Dirt" album.

The Beatles legend will be releasing the reissue of the 1989 album on March 24th, and will be offering it in various formats including a special edition, and a deluxe edition box set. Track details are available on the preorder pagehere.

McCartney co-wrote a third of songs on the album with Elvis Costello, including "My Brave Face." Paul has this to say about the demo, "Because we were working above the studio, we'd just go downstairs and make the record, just the two of us singing exactly what we had made up. So there were a few recordings that haven't been released. We keep saying to each other that they're good because they are raw, it's hot off the skillet'.

He also reflected on working with Costello, "I was looking for someone to work with, trying to think of something imaginative to do and one day my manager said 'do you fancy writing with Elvis Costello? It might be a great thing'. I said 'yeah'. He (Elvis) came down to my studio and we sat opposite each other with our guitars because I had said to him early on that this is how I'd written with John, with me being left handed and him being right handed, it was almost like looking in a mirror. We did virtually what John and I did which was just make up a song a day." Stream the demo here.

Calisus Streaming New Single 'Six Feet of Lies'

Maryland rockers Calisus have released a new single entitled "Six Feet of Lies". That track is the first release from the group's forthcoming EP which will be entitled "human".

Frontman Zach Constable had this to say about the song, "Six Feet of Lies can have a very different meaning to a lot of different people. It all comes down to what the person is going through in their life.

"The main relation to the song is getting away from and ridding of whatever you're going through, burying it deep down six feet under to move on. I feel the anthem style of the chorus is what makes it so easy for people to catch on and sing along to.

"By the end, they know every word and are singing them out. Every musician knows that feeling when the crowd sings along to your songs. It makes me that much more amped up for each and every show, to get out there and share your message." Listen here.

Singled Out: Pete RG's Heaven Knows

Pete RG just kicked off his late winter tour in support of his new album "Tender Souls" and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the inspiration behind the song "Heaven Knows". Here is the story:

I must've I given up on "Heaven Knows" a few dozen times while writing and recording it. As with most of my songs, the first seed was sewn while I was banging on my acoustic guitar. I was collecting song ideas for an upcoming recording session. The verse melody and some of the key lyrics, including the phrase "heaven knows," were among them. I'm always reading about politics and social news. It's a form of masochism, these days. I feel like we're being watched all the time and pushed into a group-think vacuum. That was the lyrical inspiration.

Anyway, at the recording session, our goal was to get an idea of which ideas were worthy of developing further. Scotty Kormos was playing drums that day as this was right before Dave Krusen joined the band. With Adam Kury on bass and Brina Kabler engineering and producing, we began working through the ideas, one after the other. "Heaven Knows" was the last one we got to. Immediately after hearing me strum the basic verse-chorus idea, Scotty and Adam came up with the drum and bass groove that became the foundation of the song. Brina suggested an alternate melody for the chorus and the song took shape in minutes. It felt really good. We were excited and spent some more time working on ideas for a bridge. That's when we hit a wall. We couldn't come up with anything that measured up to the verse and chorus melodies.

The band went home and came back a week later to try again on the bridge. Still nothing. I worked on it alone. I worked on it with Brina. I worked on it in my sleep. Nada. I felt like I was banging my head against the wall. I told Brina we needed to back-burner it for a bit. Either that or the song would kill me or I'd kill the song. She wouldn't let it go. Our conversations about the song got slightly heated. I got to a point where I was ready to delete all of the recordings and leave the song to distant memory. Finally, Brina relented and we set it aside.

Fast forward about a year, we were working on the TENDER SOULS album. Brina brought up revisiting the song. I begrudgingly agreed. As a band, we were gaining some confidence and momentum. I didn't want to spoil that with a song that could easily bog us down, but I thought it would be fine to see what Dave and Kevin Haaland (lead guitarist) might do with it. It was worthy of one more try. Not surprisingly, they had some great ideas that rekindled the inspiration for the song for me. The one that hit me the most was to have the band drop out at the top of the bridge and slowly build back up. We were on to something with that. But, we needed more time in the studio that we didn't have. We were about to go on a six week U.S. tour opening for Candlebox.

The tour began. Once we got a few shows under our belt- it was our first large stage tour- we decided to try out the song in front of a crowd. It was a risk since it was unfinished. We could easily crash and burn right in front of a couple thousand eyes, but we decided to go for it. The song was too cool to leave on the sidelines during the tour. Plus, if we were to crash and burn in front of a big audience, we figured we'd have a good laugh about it after. My hope was that we'd catch a bit of inspiration in that moment of do or die. Fortunately, that's exactly what happened. Right away, we caught on to what would be the final version of the song. We kept it in the set and refined it every night. We could see the audience reaction grow stronger with every performance. That was really cool. Two days after the tour was finished we were back in the studio to finish the song. We wasted no time. In fact, all we did was drop the bridge into what we had recorded right before we went on the road. The drums sounds in the bridge are slightly different from the rest of the song, but that adds to the magic of the recording.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
