Tool's New Album 'Epic and Brutal' Says Tom Morello

(Radio.com) According to Tom Morello, Tool's long-anticipated new album will be well worth the wait. Morello jumped on Instagram earlier this week (Dec. 11) to share a photo snapped in the recording studio with three members of Tool (singer Maynard James Keenan was nowhere in sight).

More importantly, Morello revealed that Tool was nice enough to play him some of the new music that they've been working on. "Had the honor of being the first outsider to hear new Tool music today!!," Morello shared. "Still just instrumentals but sounded epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool. Really great. So excited to hear the record when it's finished."

There is still no indication when fans can expect to get their first dose of new Tool music, but from the looks of things, it is actually in the works. See Morello's post

U2 Make History And Earn Biggest Rock Album Of 2017

(Gibson) The guys of U2 are certainly no strangers to successful albums, and their just-released studio set, Songs of Experience, is right up there. Bono and the crew have officially scored their eighth No. 1 Billboard 200 album with Songs of Experience, which pushed 186,000 equivalent album sales during its first week out, 180,000 of which were from traditional album sales.

Here's another big honor: Both sales totals mark the highest single-week sales numbers for an album by any rock artist in 2017. A portion of the sales numbers for Songs of Experience were included in a promotion that bundled the record with tickets for U2's 2018 Experience + Innocence Tour.

Songs of Experience is the companion set to 2014's Songs of Innocence, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 upon its release. The No. 1 showing for U2's Songs of Experience makes U2 the first band to ever achieve No. 1 records in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. They join three artists who have also achieved that tally: Bruce Springsteen, Janet Jackson and Barbra Streisand. here.

David Bowie 'The Last Five Years' Documentary Trailer Released

(Radio.com) David Bowie's final acts of creativity are chronicled in a new documentary, The Last Five Years, which is scheduled to premiere on HBO on January 8th, which would have been the rock legend's 71st birthday.

A new teaser trailer for the doc captures the legendary rock icon at various stages throughout his career, with Bowie himself providing voice-overs for much of the clip. The doc focuses on the artist's final pair of studio albums, The Next Day and Blackstar, as well as the stage production, Lazarus.

"Always go a little further into the water than you feel you're capable of being in and when you don't feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you're just about in the right place to do something exciting," Bowie can be heard saying at one point during the trailer.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry Announce Solo Album Release Show

(hennemusic) Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry will launch his new solo album, "Sweetzerland Manifesto", with a performance at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on January 16.

Billed as "Joe Perry And Friends", the event lands three days before the January 19 release of the record and will see the rocker perform a mix of new music, Aerosmith tracks and covers.

"Sweetzerland Manifesto" sees Perry collaborating with guest vocalists Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, David Johansen and Terry Reid, and others including Johnny Depp, Zak Starkey, and his own sons Tony and Roman Perry.

Peery's first full studio record since 2009's "Have Guitar, Will Travel" was recorded at Studio 1480 in Los Angeles and produced by the guitarist and Bruce Witkin, with Depp serving as executive producer and additional help from longtime Aerosmith associate Jack Douglas, who co-wrote and co-produced a number of tracks.

"Sweetzerland Manifesto" is being previewed with the lead track "Aye, Aye, Aye", featuring Cheap Trick vocalist Robin Zander. "Being friends and fans of each other for 40 years, Robin and I had always talked about writing together," Perry tells Rolling Stone. "I was in L.A. working on my newest solo record and Robin was in town with Cheap Trick and called me with an idea for a song. He sang the chorus over the phone which was all he had at the time. I dug it and said, 'Hell yeah, come on up.'

"This song turned out to be one of two tracks on the album I hadn't written the music for before. Robin came up to Sweetzerland and six hours later 'Aye, Aye, Aye' was born. The song moved along as fast as a ride on a Japanese bullet train. In fact, we were able to track it live that night." Listen to the song here.

Ed Sheeran Looks To Bruce Springsteen For New Inspiration

(Radio.com) Ed Sheeran's next album just might be strikingly different than his latest release. Having recently been introduced to Bruce Springsteen's stripped-down 1982 release Nebraska, the "Shape Of You" singer says he wants to make a sparse, possibly unpopular album that will ultimately span generations.

"My plan is a lo-fi album that will be my lowest-selling, but most loved," Sheeran told The Times. "I only heard Springsteen recently. I was with Kit [Harington] from Game Of Thrones.

"We had a night out in New York, got back to his hotel to drink more, and he played 'Atlantic City.' Then, when I heard Nebraska'" Sheeran didn't go into any more detail about the record. Read more here.

Radiohead Star Nominated For Golden Globe Award

(Gibson) It would seem that being in the world's preeminent and most-boundary pushing rock act isn't enough for Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. In addition to consistently being part of some of the most sonically adventurous albums in modern history, he likes to branch out every now in then.

In what is known these days as a 'side hustle,' Greenwood is also a critically-acclaimed composer of film scores, having crafted background music for films like There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice (all directed by Paul Thomas Anderson), as well as, Bodysong, We Need To Talk About Kevin and Norwegian Wood. His score for There Will Be Blood was described by Rolling Stone as "a sonic explosion that reinvented what film music could be" while the legendary Hans Zimmer described it as, "recklessly, crazily beautiful."

His latest score for the film Phantom Thread (another Paul Thomas Anderson film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis) has now been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. Read more here.

Ozzy Osbourne Reveals The Song Changed His Life

Ozzy Osbourne is not only a legend as a solo artist but also as the frontman for the godfathers of heavy metal Black Sabbath but it was another legendary group with quite a different sound that inspired him to a career in music.

Osbourne took part in a campaign from the End The Silence campaign by charity Hope And Homes For Children where they asked music stars to reflect on songs that made an impact on them in their youth.

Ozzy selected the Beatles classic "She Loves You" and explained (via Classic Rock), "That song changed my life. She Loves You had such an impact on me. I remember exactly where I was. I was walking down Witton Road in Aston, I had a blue transistor radio and when that song came on I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.

"This was so brand new and it gave me a great feeling. Then I became an avid Beatles fan - they were great. I owe my career to them because they gave me the desire to want to be in the music game."
