But the Halestorm frontwoman adds that it drove her to form the band the following year in 1998 - and they've been touring ever since. She tells iRockRadio: "I've been in the same band since I was 13, so I've been gigging for a long time. My parents used to take me to local festivals and it would just be a mish-mash of things.
"I was 11 and at some Christian Rock festival that came through and I went with a bunch of friends. Before the band started, I remember being really jealous, just that jealousy where you think, 'I wanna do that.' Low-and-behold, the next year I was like, 'Ok, we're doing it.'" Read more here.
Singer and guitarist Ally Dickaty tells The Wall Street Journal: "There's a lot of singing for the beaten-down and the people who don't have a voice. This particular song is about a couple that is escaping from the society that they're living in because they've just had enough of it."
The band have a number of UK tour dates lined up for next month, including an appearance at the TeamRock-sponsored Stone Free festival at London's O2 on June 18. See the dates and watch the video here.
Scabbia recently admitted Lacuna Coil were not taken seriously when they first started out in Italy. She said: "At the beginning it wasn't easy, because when you say you're a musician, people immediately say, 'Ok but what's your job?' 'I'm a musician,' 'Yeah, but what's your real job?' 'No, really, I'm touring the world, this is how I pay my bills.'
"People still don't look at musicians as people who really work. At the beginning my parents were worried for me, like, 'Where do you think you're going?' - especially coming from Italy. There aren't a lot of rock or metal bands from Italy." Watch the sock puppet interview here.
The new official live video for the track comes as the band also announce their Back To Basics summer tour with Like Moths To Flames, Get Scared and Picturesque.
Blessthefall vocalist Beau Bokan tells Alternative Press: "Back To Basics tour is us stripping everything back and packing our live show into some tight, sweaty, intimate venues. No gimmicks. Just us, our music and our fans." Watch the video and see the tour dates here.
The guitarist says each member has become a better musician - and says that their latest record showcases their creativity and talent without overcomplicating their sound.
He tells Noisy: "I think Coma Ecliptic is us figuring out how to sound, figuring out how to make the music we want to make and making it work pretty much flawlessly.
"I don't really have any complaints about that album. I feel like it's the most mature album, and the duration of the band's lifetime all kind of led up to that. I think that's the pinnacle. I think we finally did what we wanted to do.
"Nobody's trying to prove a point, we're not trying to out-shred everybody, and we're not trying to write the most complicated stuff in the world. We're just trying to write really cool music that showcases all of our creativity and where all of us are as musicians." Read more here.
Drummer Anthony Caruso previously told TeamRock: "We're a very passionate band and put our heart and soul into every song. We just love playing music and we've been doing this since we were 13.
"It's been quite a while for us, but that's what we've been working towards the whole time. Playing music to people in other countries is our goal." Stream the new song here.
