Alice in Chains Open Up To Metallica |
The special is airing on radio stations nationwide between September 25 and 29, and the group talked very openly about moving on after the death of Layne Staley, writing songs with new singer William DuVall, and having Elton John play on the title track.
When asked by Hetfield what the album title means to the band, guitarist Jerry Cantrell explained that the title track is a song about Staley. "It's a really intense song and a really open-hearted song because of Layne and the experience that we all went through," he said. "It's [about] facing up to that stuff and all the good and all the bad and moving forward together. It speaks to [the fact that] things were pretty black for us. It's pretty literal, and things are starting to get a little lighter."
Missing Guitarist Turns Up |
Now that tour will kick off tomorrow as planned with all of the added publicity of the disappearance to help promote it. Pretty amazing timing in that. But the band should check his Myspace page for a login the next time he "disappears" so they need not worry.
The band issued this statement on Monday: "We just talked to him and although he sounded somewhat incoherent he says he'll be fine and the tour will start as planned tomorrow!! Sorry if he worried anyone! 5FDP"

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Release New CD Today |
Cave and Ellis' first soundtrack together was Australian director John Hillcoat's 2005 quasi-Western, The Proposition (for which Cave also wrote the screenplay). The following year, the pair received a commission to compose the music for a film by another Australian director, Andrew Dominik's The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. By the time Dominik's film came out, Hillcoat had begun his adaptation of The Road (Cormac McCarthy's novel of a father and son's trek across a vast wasteland in the aftermath of global catastrophe); once again Cave and Ellis were invited to create music for the film. With The Road as yet unreleased, this album offers a rare opportunity for a sneak preview of the soundtrack.
All three movies, with their epic landscapes and acutely incised psychology, find a correlative sweep and depth in the scores that Cave and Ellis have devised for them, and a poignancy that imbues the films with a timeless aura; the music from this triumvirate is on Disc 1 of the 2 CD set. In addition to these large-scale efforts, Cave and Ellis have also contributed a resonant musical dimension to a pair of lesser known, but striking documentaries, represented on Disc 2.

Divine Heresy Announce Tour With Moonspell |
Divine Heresy's pummeling new offering, Bringer of Plagues, redefines the meaning of aggression and takes extreme to an all new level. The unrelenting new offering was released last week to rave reviews across the board and debuted at an impressive #148 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. This album is hailed as the most brutal and unrelenting offering of the legendary Dino Cazares' stellar career. Newcomer Travis Neal (ex-The Bereaved) has undoubtedly proven that he is the perfect fit for the role as he delivers a debut performance for the ages.
Cazares further states: "We have been waiting patiently for the perfect touring opportunity to present itself and we couldn't possibly be more pleased to be direct support to the mighty Moonspell this fall. This North American tour is exactly what we were looking for as we wanted a chance to perform in front of a lot of new faces that might not have been exposed to our band. This tour marks the kickoff of a massive worldwide touring campaign to support the new Bringer of Plagues album. DIVINE HERESY is better than ever and we are embarking on this tour with only one, simple goal in mind: to annihilate everything in our path. Expect an unrelenting set and if your jaw isn't on the floor when we finish, then we haven't done our job, but that won't be the case. Be sure to come by the merch booth each night to say hello to us all and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. It's certainly been way too long."
