Deep and dark; Blue Record overflows with gossamer melodies and striking, earnest riffs that have become the band's signature. Drew Barrymore Whip It Sounds |
The girl-power-meets-punk-rock spirit of the music featured in Whip It plays an integral role in telling the story, from setting the film's rebellious tone to celebrating its characters' wild individuality. Barrymore says music was frequently played on the movie set, where a hot-pink boom box was her constant companion. "We spent countless hours listening to as many different songs as possible, always searching for just the right song for just the right moment," she says. "Some of these songs were inspirational to us from very early on in the process, and really set the tone in our minds of the movie we were trying to make."
Conceived as a mix tape, the soundtrack's 19 songs are peppered with talented young artists like Belgian electro-rockers Goose ("Black Gloves"), Mercury Prize nominees The Go! Team ("Doing It Right"), L.A. beat-punks The Ettes ("Crown Of Age"), Rolling Stone Artist to Watch Apollo Sunshine ("Breeze"), Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, Nebraska indie-pop quintet Tilly And The Wall ("Pot Kettle Black"), and Peaches' raunchy fun ("Boys Wanna Be Her").

Protest The Hero A Little Later Than Planned |
"After collectively recreating the Footloose dance to subside our anger, Gallop Meets The Earth hasn't met the deadline. With countless hours of editing, tirelessly watching our cheesy and unacceptable stage moves, making sure all the bonus footage wasn't too inappropriate and embarrassing, and Luke himself running to FedEx to mail out the final copy of our upcoming DVD release, I regretfully am here to inform you that there was a manufacturing defect not once, but twice in the process of mass producing this DVD.
"That being said, the release in the States is unaffected by this, but in Canada the new release date is September 29th. Please understand that we did everything on our end to get this DVD done and out on time and this was entirely out of our control. I'm sure it's already on your favorite torrent site as we speak so I guess no one's missing out. So please join us with the rage subsiding Footloose dance, or at least watch that episode of Flight of The Conchords. Maybe we just built up too much bad Karma in the last five years."

Swampdawamp Rock This Country |
The album title translates perfectly the content and direction of this 12-track disc which, like the band, crosses the border between rock and country genres and clearly defines what has become the norm for this artist and its label, Big Penny Entertainment. Rock This Country was produced by Ken Coomer and Charlie Brocco.
Rock This Country is a true American blue-collar album throughout and the brilliant efforts of a band that defies being branded by New York or Nashville. Together, the songs and playing skills deliver a statement from a band that truly gets what their audience wants and what the new generation of listeners to find and cling to.
