Aerosmith Vs Steven Tyler? |
During an interview with Billboard, Perry wasn't shy about his disappointment with current events in the Aerosmith camp and while he didn't name frontman Steven Tyler directly, fans can read between the lines and come up with Tyler's name in light of some other recent statements made by Perry.
Now Perry tells Billboard, "The thing that bothers me the most is how it affects the fans. The only reason you're there is because of the fans. You owe them a lot, and when you start taking them for granted, it's just wrong. I think that a lot of what happened with Aerosmith over the last two or three years has been a case of that. And I'm not talking about everybody in the band. I think at this point the four band members are willing to not play for a while until the fifth member gets together and decides to come and join us again."
Rock Legend Dickie Peterson Dies |
Inspired by the heavy blues improv of Cream and Hendrix, legendary proto metal gods Blue Cheer roared forth from the San Francisco Bay area onto the national scene in a big way in early 1968 with their debut album 'Vincebus Eruptum'. Completely at odds with almost all of what was coming up from the hippie flower power underground, they were the antithesis of bands such as The Grateful Dead, as subtle as a jackhammer and louder than a 747.
Named for the particularly potent "Blue Cheer" acid, incredibly they hit paydirt with both the album and the single culled from it, the classic cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" soaring towards the upper reaches of the Billboard charts. Contemporaries of Hendrix, Joplin and The Doors, their powerhouse performances elicited Jim Morrison to pronounce them, "The single most powerful band I've ever seen".

Singled Out: Dead By Sunrise and Alice Cooper |
Here is what Alice had to say about it: "At home my family all gathers around an old spooky tree decorated with skulls and bones in the living room, and we exchange gifts. It's our holiday. We even all have matching black-and-orange Halloween sweaters! I wanted a theme song for people like me, and for us Halloween never ends. In the chorus I say, 'I'm keepin' Halloween alive, baby, 365'... and I mean it!" He adds, "We played it live as a band to capture the vibe. It was the easiest work I think any of us have ever done, not to mention a blast!" Check out the song and more here
We also hear from Dead By Sunrise guitarist Amir Derakh who tells us a little bit about the band's song "Crawl Back In": "The song itself is about the purity of who you are before you're born, and then when you get older, you want to get back to the same purity of youth. The video shoot was actually pretty easy. We all shot separately on the rocks. It's fairly easy for us really cool location, and we just did our thing".

Zappa Vocal Legend Napoleon Murphy Brock To Release Vintage Live Recordings |
On August 8th, 1973, Frank Zappa was alerted by his road manager, Marty Perellis, that an incredible band with an extraordinary lead singer was performing downtown to a standing room only audien ce and that it might be wise that he come and see this for himself. When Zappa went to the club and watched the show, he saw a young talent sin g, dance, play sax, flute and keyboards, in a manner that clearly made it appear that he was having more fun than even the other patrons in the club. After two hours of observing and listening to this young man and his very disciplined band of musicians, he introduced himself as Frank Zappa, and the young man introduced himself as Napoleon Murphy Brock. The next words out of Zappa's mouth were, "You are my new lead vocalist."
"As I understand it, he had just finished touring Australia, and they were getting ready to go to Europe a week or two after that," recalls Napoleon to Andrew Greenaway. "And he was taking a little break. He stopped off in Hawaii for a week or so. And his road manager, Marty Perellis, set Frank up in a hotel and then went out walking around in Hawaii probably to see if he could get lucky or something! If you want a good time, what better place to do it than in Hawaii? Hawaii is literally paradise. And he came to a show of mine outside a nightclub at the Coral Reef hotel and got curious as to why there was a line of people waiting to get into a place on a Wednesday night. He didn't recognize the name of the band, so he thought he'd get in line and come in and see why everybody was queuing up. The reason that people would line up in front of the 'Red Noodle' every night is because the club owners always hired us, and brought us to play and perform for the local people of Hawaii. The locals would get off of work between 10 pm and 11 pm. They had until 12 midnight to get in the club, after which time the tourists would be let in until the club capacity was met. We played 7 nights a week, from 10 pm until 4 am".
