Young MC Stone Cold Rhymin' 20 Years Later |
When it comes to playing it straight, Stone Cold Rhymin' is almost shocking in its innocence. Thirteen songs and zero curse words, the album endures as a quality listen because of Young MC's wit, wordplay, and dazzling elocution...not to mention the funkiness of the music. The album bridges old school sounds and what at the time passed for cutting edge production.
Twenty years after its original release, the "Delicious Deluxe Digital Edition" of Stone Cold Rhymin' comes with seven additional tracks not on the original LP. "Principal's Office (Impact Remix)" and "I Come Off (Southern Comfort Mix") are rare mixes from original 12-inches. "I Let Em Know (Matt Dike Remix)" is a promotional mix never before released commercially, while "Pick Up The Pace (1990)" first appeared on the soundtrack to the Steven Seagal movie "Marked For Death." The other three bonus tracks date from 2008's Delicious RMXXOLOGY project: Diplo's turbocharged versioning of "Bust A Move," Aaron LaCrate and Debonair Samir's massive club banger "Know How Theme" and the previously unreleased RMX of "Got More Rhymes" from MEN (the collaborative alias of Le Tigre's JD Samson and Johanna Fateman).
Metric Fantasies Coming In April |
Written by the band in a farmhouse outside Seattle and by frontwoman Emily Haines while on a soul-cleansing sojourn to Argentina, Fantasies is a densely textured modern mix of psychedelia, electro, and rock with a "really big and really dreamy" sound, says guitarist/co-founder Jimmy Shaw.
Haines adds, "For me, the major influences on the record were the places we wrote it: Bear Creek, this utopian farmhouse studio, and then our own studio in Toronto, which definitely brought in the electro, dance and rock elements because the city feels so good right now and so many of our musician friends were around. And then for me, being in Buenos Aires, most of the songs I brought to this record came out of being in exile with just a piano and a guitar. And then in the final stages, mixing at Electric Lady in NYC brought everything around to where we first met Josh and Joules."

John Keane Goes Down The Corduroy Road |
Since its inception, The Corduroy Road has molded roots in Americana, folk rock, and old-time country with the rawest of live performances. The group was founded by Drew Carman (vocals, banjo) and Dylan Solise (guitar, vocals) in early 2006. The two were born and raised in the Central Kentucky Bluegrass Region where they learned their craft until relocating to the musical gem of the southeast: Athens, GA. With the addition of John Cable on drums and Tim Helms on bass, The Corduroy Road quickly gained a reputation in Athens as one of the best bands on the scene after sharing the stage with such notable bands as The Avett Brothers, Paleface, The Packway Handle Band, Ian Thomas, Langhorne Slim, Drakkar Sauna and more.
In October 2008 the band released a 6-song self-titled EP and began incessantly touring the Southeast, rapidly building a loyal fan-base with their infectious live shows. Heavy airplay on Charlotte's WNCW is attracting attention to the band all over the Carolinas and beyond. GO TRIAD said "These six catchy, toe-tapping tunes feel like the kind of songs your friends end up playing around a campfire well into the night. They're familiar, bright and earthy."
