The Oscars Adopt Standards For Best Song Award |
New rules mean that every song entered must get a minimum score of 8.25 (on a bizarre scale of six to 10) when voted for by Academy music members.
"We're trying to improve the quality," says composer Bruce Broughton, head of the Academy's music branch. He added the move would make entries "as good as possible". [If they can't pick good movies, how are they supposed to judge good music?]
Gene Simmons Says Adam Lambert Killed His Career With His Sexuality |
"I don't think I've been talking smack at all. In fact, if anything, I've been soft-peddling," Simmons told Inside TV. "He's enormously talented, best talent 'American Idol' has had, but I think he killed his career because now the conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference. He's done. You're forcing people to deal with issues they may not be interested in. Life is unfair, and the masses don't all live in L.A. They live in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and you're on crack if you think the same rules apply there. My advice is still the same, shut the ---- up, just sing and let people say whatever they want."
Interesting insight into the Los Angeles mindset about the rest of the country Gene, it's a good thing for Elton John, George Michael and Rob Halford that the people that actually live outside of LA don't think that way. Otherwise how did Michael sell almost as many albums to these people as you have (with about 20 less releases) or how did Elton sell 3.7 times as many? Then again, your career advice must be worth something as the little band you discovered that goes by the name of Van Halen has sold three times as many albums as you. (sarcasm off). Lesson here? Who cares is someone is gay or not? If the music is any good, people will buy it. Which explains the stellar sales of your solo album.

John Mellencamp Documentary In The Works |
Markus' extraordinary vision and focus on the American West has earned him critical accolades over the course of his 35 year long career in photography that has seen his work published in Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stone, Travel and Leisure, New York Times Magazine, Outside, Esquire, Texas Monthly, Entertainment Weekly, Vogue and Best Life as well as overseas outlets. He was recipient of Life Magazine's Alfred Eisenstaedt Photography Award for his Rolling Stone "Sports Hall of Fame" shots of triathelete Peter Kotland.
This summer he will accompany Mellencamp with a classic Super 8 camera, capturing him on tour and as he records an album of new songs. Ian Markus, his son, is his assisting cameraman and will film digitally and capture sound. The expectation is that Markus' approach to production will capture the unrefined truth of his experience with Mellencamp over the course of July and August.
