Men At Work Accused of Stealing Down Under |
According to Billboard.biz, a music publishing company, Larrikin Music, is suing over the song "Down Under," claiming the "flute riff" in the song was lifted from the "refrain of a 1934 children's tune, 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.'"
The band's record labels are asking that the case be tossed out. And according to the Billboard report, "They also question whether Larrikin even holds the copyright to that song -- a Girl Guide campfire favorite from New Zealand to Canada -- and therefore whether it has the right to sue."

The crowd, perhaps expecting Young's encore set-closer of the Fab Four, went wild when McCartney ran on stage right on time for the middle section.
Young and McCartney hugged and sang together, and then Macca darted off to thunderous applause. But as Young proceeded to wreak havoc on Old Black, his trusty '53 Les Paul - another nightly ritual - for the song's crescendo, McCartney came back out to take part in the fun.

TO/DIE/FOR Ponder Reunion |
"I have been talking about things with TDF original drummer Tonmi Lillman, and also with TDF bassist Josey, and it seems like there would be possibility to continue with TDF and record a sixth album. But it will take some time. If it happens it will happen in 2010 or 2011.
But it will happen only if Tonmi is with me and Josey. We need him to create unique TDF sound. We do not know about guitarists yet.

Portugal. The Man Says 'Download, But Support Your Favorite Artists' |
The leak prompted P.TM's front man, John Baldwin Gourley, to post a very passionate, straight-from-the-heart blog on the band's site. The members of Portugal. The Man fully support downloading and have always been very vocal about it. But, according to Gourley, the support of downloading is just one-half of the equation: download all you want, but still, for the music, for the art, and for the sense of community, it's important to support your favorite artists.
You can read Gourley's "The Leak" blog, but here are some highlights from it: "We play music because we love it and nothing will change that ever. We tour because we love it and not because of money. If I wanted money, I would have stayed in Alaska and worked construction rather than starve for this. Rather than fight through three dollar meals and countless nights sleeping in the van. The point we are at now is so far from where we have come and yet still so far from a standard of living."

Gregg Rolie Band Releases New Live CD |
The final track on the CD, "Bailamos El Son", was taken from Gregg Rolie's performance on the PBS special Trini Lopez Presents The Legends of Latin Music. Filmed at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles last October, the program will be aired in June 2009. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, this year Warner Home Video's will be releasing a Blu-ray and DVD Ultimate Collector's Edition with high definition picture and sound of 'Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music', which will also feature two hours of bonus material, some of it newly-discovered. Much to the elation of fans worldwide, extra footage of Santana's historic Woodstock performance will be included. He ld at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas on March 23rd, along with Santana alumni Michael Shrieve, Gregg resided on a discussion panel of performers, filmakers and key technicians who helped create the timeless music classic and Oscar winning 'Best Documentary' Woodstock. Also, the Gregg Rolie band recently performed at the Hard Rock Cafe New York for the premier of the new 'Woodstock' DVD / Blue-ray release. Audience members were treated to a guest appearance by drummer Michael Shrieve during the set.
"The first time I played with Gregg everything just clicked. In a humble way, it was very much like McCartney and Lennon. You know when there's chemistry there. Drummers came and went; congeros came and went, but his feeling and my feeling...sometimes it was hard to tell who was the needle and who was the thread." Carlos Santana
