Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess Sets Solo Release |
Jordan Rudess first gained national exposure when the readers of Keyboard Magazine voted him 1994's Best New Talent in the Overall Best Keyboardist category after his first solo release Listen. Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree calls Notes on a Dream, "Amazingly beautiful. Reminds me of the very best of Keith Jarrett's piano music, and that's about as big compliment as I can give to anything!" Rich Wilson, contributing writer to the UK's Classic Rock Magazine, and Dream Theater biographer and author of Lifting Shadows: The Authorized Biography of Dream Theater, states "...his work is simply stunning and one that deserves to be heard by a larger audience than just DT fans" and "an album that is elegant, adventurous and the work of a modern day genius." Composer, musician, and former Director of Kurzweil Pro Products, Chris Martirano, states, "Jordan proves the piano is the ultimate acoustic vehicle! Notes On A Dream is a master work."
Since 1999, Jordan has been an integral member of and creative driving force behind Dream Theater, the most critically-acclaimed progressive hard rock band in the world. Jordan states, "The Dream Theater songs on Notes on a Dream feature a diverse range of tracks that were written both before I joined the band, as well during my time with the band. While there have been many interpretations of Dream Theater songs recorded by other bands and artists, I thought it would be interesting, as a member of the band, to recreate these songs in my own unique, personal style." Chris Martirano, continues, describing one of Jordan's three originals tracks, an intricate, progressive musical adventure designed to feature Jordan's virtuosic chops, called The Grand Escapement, as "tipping a nod to an Emersoneque/Bartok/Prokofiev fiery work full of difficult passages with heavy counterpoint: amazing dexterity and independence."

The Band of Heathens Set Album Release and Austin City Limits Appearance |
The album hit No. 1 on the Americana Music Association Radio chart, spending two weeks in the top spot against formidable competition. It charted a total of 34 weeks in the U.S., held No. 1 for two months on the Euro-Americana chart, and was No. 8 on the AMA's Top 100 albums of 2008 list.
How does a band follow a year like that? Indeed the bar has been set high. But one listen to the new album, One Foot in the Ether, due out September 15 on BOH Records through Redeye Distribution, makes apparent that the Heathens' three-frontman approach to writing and performing over the past three years has paid off in the studio. Apart from the confidence necessary to pull off releasing two live albums before releasing 2008's debut studio record, it's evident that their unorthodox career strategy suits them well.

(Hed)pe and Mushroomhead Gain Support |
The 'Hed to Head' tour is a great opportunity to work with two of the hardest working bands over the last 10 years, Mushroomhead and Hed(pe)," commented Alexis Brown of Straight Line Stitch. "They know how to kill every town they hit. We are definitely cut from the same metal cloth having toured for years ourselves and aspire to achieve the sorts of successes they have had in their respective careers."
Armed with an unstoppable work ethic and a musical vocabulary that stretches from face-ripping metal to soulful rock, Straight Line Stitch are poised to grab heavy music by the horns with their Raging Nation/KOCH Records debut, "When Skies Wash Ashore". The group's eclectic mixture of melodic metalcore has allowed them to open for the likes of DevilDriver, Napalm Death, Bleed The Sky and 36 Crazyfists.
