Randy Rhodes Film Trailer Resurfaces |
Although the film is not yet completed, a ten minute long trailer to that documentary was recently leaked back in late June via Blabbermouth.net. It was on the internet, for a day or two, then pulled.
Apparently, Margolis did not have clearance for all of the images on the trailer and threatened to halt production of the film, if the trailer was not removed. The trailer has resurfaced again, for the time being

Galactic Cowboys Reunite |
The three shows - in Dallas, Austin and Houston - will reunite vocalist Ben Huggins, bassist Monty Colvin, guitarists Wally Farkas, and drummer Alan Doss on stage for the first time in nearly a decade. Dane Sonnier, who played guitar on the first two Cowboys records and remains an extended member of the family, will join the group for several songs.
"The Cowboys," as they are affectionately known, played their last show together on December 10, 1999 in Dusseldorf, Germany, before parting ways. "We were cruising in our starship just off the shoulder of Orion and got sucked into a wormhole," said Huggins. "For the past nine years Galactic Cowboys have been living in an alternate universe where, in large part, we lost touch with one another. It took almost 10 years to find one another again. Immediately we boarded our starship and came out the other side of the wormhole ready to rock!"

Jason Aldean Going High Def |
Into the Presence Hit The Road |
Into the Presence is a 10-track odyssey of tunes which were recorded in true analog (tape machines and vintage outboard gear) creating a sweeping musical journey that is stripped down in its instrumentation but grand in its sonic landscape.
Into the Presence's sound is a revamped version of the stuff rock legends are made of. Still, they've managed to stamp their personal signature into this debut by making good use of all analog resources and vintage gear. Tim Alexander and Luis Maldonado enveloped their sound with a sense of rock antiquity. Their album became a reflection of vocals straight out of A Night at the Opera and instrumentation akin to Dark Side of the Moon. Into the Presence recreates that primordial time when rock found its bearings and took hold on the emerging scene for the rest of time.

Double Trouble with Cetan Clawson |
Clawson remembers, "When you're recording with someone who has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and so many others, it's such a great feeling, and all around a phenomenal experience. It was a real honor working with Chris Layton and Scott Nelson." Visit www.cetanclawson.com to see a mini-documentary with footage of the sessions, an interview with Cetan and live performances!
Cetan's debut album, White Heat is in stores now on 8th Impression/Universal, but since he recorded it at the wise old age of 17, he is eager to provide fans with new songs. To that end, the tunes from his session with Layton and Kenny Wayne Shepherd bassist Scott Nelson will be released as a 45 download!

Beaten Awake Again |
Thunder$troke is a lo-fi, alternately heavy and rocking, dreamy and rolling landscape of fuzzy bass, resonating drums, and guitars channeled through a late '70s Fender Super Reverb amp.
The members of Beaten Awake have been fixtures of the Kent, OH, music scene since the late '90s, playing in a number of bands that include Harriet The Spy, The Party of Helicopters, The Man I Fell In Love With, and "New" Terror Class. Thunder$troke - from the humming, melodic title track to the driving indie rock of "Gyro Quake" to the dreamy, ambling "Coming Home" - serves in many ways as a document of not only the music they're making at this time, but also of their continuing dedication to and pride in that musical community.

The MV & EE Medicine Show |
MV & EE aspire to the sort of beautifully rewarding standard in their documented output that Sun Ra or The Grateful Dead achieved. It is with Ecstatic Peace! that their most consistent works have been born and continue reach fans with The Golden Road, their most constant band. Together with Doc Dunn (pedal steel, rhythm guitar, vocals, drums) and Mike Smith (Rickenbacker 4001, vocals) who appeared on Drone Trailer as well as J Mascis (drums, guitar, plate reverb) and Woods' Jeremy Earl (vocal, drums) they take you on the ride now known as Barn Nova and here they jam. Justin Pizzoferrato also appears contributing percussion, space echo and aiding once again at the controls. This album was recorded at MV & EE's own home studio "Maximum Arousal Farm" as well as their current local New England rooms of choice, "Bank Row" (an old mid 1900's bank) and J's home studio "Bisquiteen."
These kindred spirits share a wealth of ideas including a serious reverence and desire to upgrade/expand the classic-rock idiom. Barn Nova marks the return of "Spectrasound," MV's production technique that places tones dancing all around the stereo sound field: it has to be heard to be believed. This effect is all the more impressive that the majority of it was created recording live, rather than conjured through studio post-production during mixing. Especially potent on the A side-ending stomp "Summer Magic" where Erika's economical leads go head-to-head with J's on a particularly mind-blowing live-in-studio effort; It brings to mind the vibe of "Green Blues", "Mother Of Thousands" and even an electric "Moon Jook" with matured songwriting.

Allen Thompson Returning With 26 Years |
Like many a fine songwriter before him, Thompson has lived a lifetime of experiences in his short time here. With family tragedy of Southern Gothic proportion, Thompson was exposed to addiction and mental illness from a young age, ultimately losing both his maternal grandfather and his mother to the diseases.
The heartbreak and uncertainty that haunted him throughout his youth permeate the writing on this album. 26 Years is Thompson's coming of age. "Writing and recording these songs allowed me to come to terms with the end of my childhood and the beginning of the rest of my life," Allen explains in his liner notes.
