It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."'

Old School and Metal Rule 2009 Tours |
And, even more so than usual, the top 25 list is dominated by acts that first achieved success a quarter century ago or more, including Madonna, Tina Turner, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, the Dead, Neil Young, Iron Maiden and Leonard Cohen. That said, there's still a freshness to the chart, with some names not typically associated with the box-office elite.
The time period for the midyear numbers is Dec. 6, 2008, through June 20, 2009. When tardy reporting is factored in, overall numbers stack up favorably to the same time period last year. In the period covered, global concerts grossed $1.8 billion and drew 30.6 million attendees from 8,744 shows reported.

Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket Side Project Offers Free Song |
http://www.monstersoffolk.com is giving away the song, titled "Say Please", to anyone who visits the site and types "please" into the request form. The highly anticipated full length album will be released in the US on Shangri-La Records on September 22nd.
Monsters of Folk began as folklore of sorts, when James, Oberst, Ward and Mogis did their first run of shows together in 2004. Like the musical revue shows that went town to town when rock 'n' roll was newly born, the tour was called "An Evening With: Bright Eyes, Jim James and M. Ward," although amongst friends and crew, it became affectionately known as the "Monsters of Folk Tour." While entertaining audiences coast to coast with gorgeous acoustic melodies and world-weary tales, the foursome vowed to make their way to a studio at some point after the tour's completion. Instead, the songsmiths went on to individually release some of rock music's most exciting and essential albums of the last five years Bright Eyes' I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning & Cassadaga; My Morning Jacket's Z & Evil Urges; M. Ward's Post War and Hold Time. Never ones to forget their promise, when downtime presented itself they convened in the studio multiple times over two years, with Mogis at the helm of their first recorded effort. The result is as stunning and storied as you would expect it to be.

Singled Out: Lee Memorial |
"Long Days in Bed" was one of those songs that kind of wrote itself. It's always an exciting thing when a song arrives in your mind fully formed and this was one of those lucky moments. Not to say all the lyrics were clear in my mind or anything like that, but the tone, the structure and the idea behind the song all fell into place very quickly. The rest of the process was more akin to dressing the song and getting it ready for a night out on the town, rather than just finishing off the words.
When I wrote it I was back studying again after a ten year break and found myself thinking about my early days in Perth, Western Australia during my early twenties. I was seeing a girl at the time and we spent our days and nights in bed, cafes, at the beach and getting drunk at local gigs. My friends, band-mates and I were all on the dole or at uni and no one had much pressure to do anything productive. The song is about those times, the connections with people and most importantly the time spent with a partner lazing about the house and just living in the moment with them.
Over the years I have spent a lot of time travelling and this gives you a great perspective from which to look back on those times and rediscover the magic in them. Because, regardless of where you go and what amazing things you might see, it is how we interact with people that carries the most weight and stays in our memories the longest.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the band
