Booze Saved Zakk Wylde's Life
(Rock Radio) Zakk Wylde has explained in typical larger-than-life style how heavy drinking saved his life after he developed killer blood clots in his legs during the summer. And although he wanted the news to mean he could keep indulging, his wife made him see sense.

He tells I Heart Guitar: "We were out on the road with Mudvayne and Static-X and we were having a blast on that thing. Next thing you know, I'm hanging out and my leg's frickin' killing me - my left leg behind my knee. I figured maybe I'd pulled a calf muscle but it wasn't like I fell or anything. It wasn't like I was doing David Lee Rock splits off the drum riser.

"...We had a 24-hour drive and I said, 'Before we do this I just want to get an ultrasound.' The guy goes, 'Dude, you've got two huge blood clots behind your knee.'... He told me usually airline pilots get this ----, or truck drivers, you know? I said, 'Would drinking have anything to do with this?' He just goes, 'No, dude, if anything drinking was thinning your blood.'

"I said, 'Well, good - alcohol is a good thing', but my wife says, 'You're dreaming, buddy-boy. The bar's closed for you, jackass!'" - more on this story

Iron Maiden Restaurant
While other rock stars have put out BBQ sauce, Iron Maiden aren't a band known for taking half measures so it's no surprise that drummer Nicko McBrain has teamed up with a friend to open a BBQ restaurant. Who's up for some Number of the Beef Ribs for just $6.66?

We were just having fun with that last part; here is what Iron Maiden.com had to say about the venture: Nicko has teamed up with guitarist and friend "Moby" Rick Baum to become partners in a new BBQ restaurant called "Rock N Roll Ribs" which opened recently in Coral Springs, Florida, USA. The place is run by Rick who has been in the restaurant business since 1990, so he knows a thing or two about good food! As Nicko knows a thing or two about great music and a lively atmosphere, together this promises to be a very exciting new venture! To see the menu, and find out more about what's on offer, check out their website at http://www.rocknrollribs.com/.

For European Maiden fans, the band announced two more headlining slots on the Sonisphere festival. In addition to their previously announce headlining gig at the UK stop on the roving metal festival, Iron Maiden will also top the bill in Sweden and Finland. Grab the details - here

The Number Twelve Looks Like You Farewell Show
After nine years together and four studio albums released, New Jersey-based quartet The Number Twelve Looks Like You have decided to split up. Not content to go out quietly, the band has scheduled one last blowout farewell show on Friday, January 29 at School of Rock East in South Hackensack, NJ.

The show will feature special guests and will include former members of Number 12 joining singer Jesse "Jase" Korman, guitarist Alexis Pareja, bassist Chris Russell-Walker and drummer Jon Karel to perform songs from all four of the band's albums.

Korman commented, "I don't want to give you a sob story of why we are closing the book. I want this to end on more of a happy note like the end of the movie "Big Fish." Those of you who've been with us these past 9 years know how amazing you are, and know how much we have unconditionally appreciated your love and support. With that said, it's time to go out with some integrity, dignity and good memories. I can guarantee you that this won't be the last you hear from all of us, as we will be doing our own music projects beyond #12. But lets keep the #12 legacy living on forever and ever, like its got an Energizer battery in it, it'll just keep going and going and going and going..."

Axl Rose Releases Statement Denying Earlier Airport Attack Statement
The right hand doesn't seem to know what the left hand is doing in Guns N' Roses land. After Axl Rose's scuffle last week with a stalkerazzi photographer, a press rep for the band put out a statement about it. They posted it on the band's Myspace page, but today Axl Rose denies having anything to do with the statement. At least that is what a new posting on the Guns N' Roses Myspace page says. Who know? That could be denied tomorrow.

But here is what Axl Rose reportedly had to say today: Axl Rose denies releasing press statement regarding rumored LAX incident. "I did not release any statement or authorize either any statement or anyone to release a statement regarding anything at any airport anywhere.

We had recently began working with newer individuals in management in relation to our current Asian tour in support of our Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" in addition to Irving Azoff's though as it happens we are once again touring Asia without management of any kind.

Imo this non sense may be some type of manufactured or publicity stunt. - more on this story

Singled Out: Dustin Kensrue (Thrice)
(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue tells us about "This is War" from his brand new solo Christmas album "This Good Night Is Still Everywhere". We now turn it over to Dustin for the story:

"This Is War" is not your standard Christmas song. I wanted it to explore a different side of the holiday a different side of the story of Christ's birth. An event that we normally speak of (probably inaccurately) as peaceful, quiet, and mild, was also the most momentous event in the history of mankind. It is the equivalent of D-day. God is on the ground, in the trenches; God as man. Whether you believe this or not, it should make you stop and take notice, and to wonder who this baby really was. He was born in a stable to young unwed parents in a tiny village of a backwater territory of the Roman Empire. He grew up and worked as a carpenter for most of his life in another no-name town. At around age 30 he started a 3-year preaching ministry which ended abruptly when he was shamefully executed after being accused of being an insurrectionist and for claiming equality with God. How is it that this man is far and away the most influential man in world history? What is the true significance of Christmas? Who was that baby in the manger and why does it matter? These are questions that this song seeks to answer.

Also, I just saw the first cut of the video for this song, and I have never been more pleased with any video of mine or my bands. I am simply blown away and so excited that someone else believed in the song as much as I do.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album, check out photos from the video shoot, plus get the latest "Where's the band" tour dates! - right here!
