The Honorary Title Summer Acoustic Tour |
Gorbel is currently putting the finishing touches on his first solo record a dramatic departure for the New York singer-songwriter, who spent the early part of this summer in a Los Angeles studio with producer Blake Sennett, formerly of Rilo Kiley and The Elected.
They rounded up a killer backing band including Jason Boesel (formerly of Rilo Kiley, and currently in Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band) on drums, Azure Ray's Orenda Fink on backing vocals, Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Mystic Valley Band) and Alex McDougal from the Black Crowes on organ for an album more intimate and organic than the grandiose pop/rock sounds Gorbel explored on the Honorary Title's 2007 LP, Scream and Light Up The Sky (Doghouse/Warner Bros.)

Alan Lomax Boxset |
Folklorist Alan Lomax worked in Haiti from December of 1936 until April of 1937, documenting music and ritual at the behest of his colleague and friend, Zora Neale Hurston, and under the auspices of the Library Of Congress. He arrived just two years after the brutal 19-year occupation by the US Marines, when resentment against Americans ran high. In spite of this. Haiti opened its arms to a number of talented and highly distinguished US artists and anthropologists, who were drawn by the island's distinctive culture, its striking musical and visual arts, and its people--as well as its fascination (though mostly sensationalist) accounts of Vodou, a Haitian amalgam of religious beliefs and practices derived from West Africa. While there, Lomax recorded fifty hours of music, made copious notes, diagrams, and drawings, and even shot some color film. These have never before seen the light of day.

Crash the System Debut Coming |
The Crash the System project came about as a collaboration between songwriter Soren Kronqvist (former Finnish 400 meter hurdle champion and songwriter for Michael Bormann, House of Lords and CC Rock between others) and drummer/producer Daniel Flores (Mind's Eye, The Murder of My Sweet) in the fall of 2008. The duo has known each other for a couple of years and they respect each other's work. Kronqvist and Flores decided to work on a project together with songs they enjoyed writing.
"The original plan was to make one song with Daniel and try to get that song out to a band or an artist, and, if it would turn out good we would do more together," Kronqvist said. "The first song we did was 'All Because of You' and we both were really happy with how that song turned out. A few record companies also liked the song. We then recorded three more songs and got good response from them, as well, and that's when Frontiers came into the picture."

Constancia is Lost and Gone |
Constancia started out as the brainchild of former Scudiero/Token keyboard player Mikael Rosengren. He had written a bunch of songs that were just screaming to be completed, recorded, and released. He got in touch with Janne Stark (Overdrive, Locomotive Breath, Zello, etc.), asking him to lay down some guitars on the demos. Stark loved the songs and got even more involved in the guitar arrangements. Thus the seed of Constancia was planted.
"I've always been a fan of the pompish-side of melodic hard rock and bands like City Boy, Styx, and Trillion, as well as the real heavy stuff," said Stark. "I instantly felt these songs could be the perfect marriage between the melodic rock, some progressive moments, and an aggressive touch added to it. That's when I came to think of the style description 'Melogressive Metal.'"
