Executive produced by Snoop Dogg, Cash's son John Carter Cash, and Mathew Knowles, the album carries the blessing of the custodians of Johnny Cash's incredible legacy. The original recordings came licensed from the legendary Sun Records; the same label that gave us such luminaries as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison. The songs were recorded between 1956-1959 with Cash's first band the Tennessee Two, featuring guitar, light percussion and Cash's unmistakable vocals.
"My father made his stead defying the expected and accepted way of things," says John Carter Cash, son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, executive producer of the Academy Award winning film 'Walk The Line'. "He set the standard at the same time. He would have loved this remix record. While it stays true to the original recordings, the CD touches on undiscovered ground. My father was about staying true to tradition while creating groundbreaking music."

In early 1956 a young man was faced with a life-altering dilemma that could have had dire consequences had he not chosen the right course. Having been a star athlete in both high school and college, he was invited to attend the trials for the U. S. Olympic track-and-field team. But he was also blessed with a unique voice and vocal style that caught the eye of Columbia Records executives and was asked to come to New York to begin work on his first recording session. Prompted by his father, 21-year old John Royce Mathis chose the latter and passed on this option to become a member of the Olympic team, opting instead for a chance to break into the uncertain world of popular music. A half-century later he has yet to look back.
Over the course of those 50+ years, Johnny Mathis has sold several hundred million records and has become one of the most beloved voices in popular music. Over the span of his first three decades he charted nearly four dozen singles on the best seller charts, including such seminal romantic ballads as "Wonderful! Wonderful!", I"t's Not For Me To Say", "The Twelfth Of Never" and "Chances Are" (his first of two #1s). But Mathis' real staying power has been as an album seller; his Johnny's Greatest Hits (the record industry's FIRST greatest hits package) alone stayed on the charts for an incredible 9 years and by most accounts next to Frank Sinatra, he's been the most consistent album-seller of the modern era, having recorded upwards of 75 original collections.

"Along with the two records that preceded it (Outward Bound, 1992; and South of I-10, 1995), I feel like Levee Town was part of a threealbum trilogy," Landreth says. "I wanted to dig even deeper into the built-in mythology and mystery of the Deep South. It's really inspirational to live here. And the deeper I go, the more inspired I get."
The reissue follows From the Reach, the 2008 release that is arguably Landreth's most critically acclaimed album to date. That effort featured such guests as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett, among others. The San Francisco Chronicle's Joel Selvin called From the Reach "another great, hard-rocking Landreth record, fresh as a crisp twenty and ready to kill for half the price. What are you waiting for?" The Washington Post echoed: "Landreth has found the perfect vehicle to express his southern Louisiana roots (and has) found a way to make his songwriting as important as the jamming."
