Steve Wynn Week: Day 4 |
Wait Until You Get To Know Me: I was going to work on a song with my buddy Joe Hurly. Joe is an Irish-born, London-raised singer who lives in New York City and fronts the band Rogues March. He's a very evocative singer and lyricist and also quite the man about town, a guy you're likely to encounter in an East Village bar and end up the next day with a hangover and a vague memory of a pretty amazing night. Anyway, I wanted to write a song for his band, something that would fit his personality and character and started writing this one, not wanting to go too far so that he would be able to lend his own input. But he was busy, I was busy and the inspiration was flowing and before I knew it the song was done. It became more of a song written about him rather than a song written with him. No problem-he gave it his blessing and I got a good song and a character that's fun to inhabit on stage once a night.
If you haven't already picked up this CD then do yourself a favor and grab a listen to a few of the songs off of this CD and learn more about Steve Wynn

Hagar Explains Why He Left Van Halen |
It was a sell-out success, but things went sour quickly, and as Hagar reveals, "I think it's because somebody got to Eddie. Somebody poisoned him."
Hagar told MusicRadar, "It got to the point where I was the leader of that band. Eddie was a humble, meek guy. Greatest guitar player in the world, but not a leader. I would write the lyrics, and Eddie was happy to just play guitar and play piano. But he woke up one morning and he decided he wanted his band back. Like I was taking over and I was just the bad guy."

Twisted Murder Arrest |
Prosecutors say Christian Tarantino, 40, of Dix Hills, N.Y., the longtime owner of a string of fitness centers in New York City and Long Island, was involved in the killings of an armored car guard and two potential informants, Newsday reported.
Vincent Gargiulo, 34, brother-in-law of Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider was killed in 2003 after he and business partner Tarantino fell out over the fortunes of the gyms, prosecutors allege. They say Gargiulo had an incriminating tape recording in which Tarantino allegedly discussed the first two slayings.

Guns N' 18 Million Roses |
According to Wikipedia, Appetite For Destruction was released on July 21, 1987. In the US, 'Welcome To The Jungle' (video after the jump) was issued as its first single with an accompanying music video.
Initially, the album and single lingered for almost a year without performing well, but when Geffen Records founder David Geffen was asked to lend support to the band, he obliged by personally convincing MTV executives to play 'Welcome To The Jungle' during their after hours rotation. Even though the video was initially only played one time at 4 a.m. on a Sunday, rock and punk fans took notice and soon began requesting the video and song en masse. [hum, our article from 2003 used to be cited as the source for this info, but it looks like a wikinerd changed the time and removed the credit. Oh well. Go read more and check out the video

Arsis Down One Member |
"Well, I don't know where to start. When you're in a band, you're nothing but at the will of the group you're in. At some point, after lots of nights laying awake in a bunk after a show in the middle of the country, you really start to wonder where your life is headed.
"I know there's a big difference between what's smart and what you really want to do. I really need to do the smart thing and finish college, though I'd also like to do what I love, and continue playing with Arsis. Unfortunately, I can't do them both. Thus, I've decided to leave the band."
